I am back here in this creative kitchen corner, sooner than I thought. And again with the same fruit that you saw in my latest post. 😁
When I arrived at my parents this morning, I found them in the garden, on the ladder, picking fruits from the tree and filling the third bowl with figs.
The other day we decided to try making a cake. Now, it is not the one I intended, but another one, like a sourdough pie, where the fruit is arranged from above and then baked in the oven. Mom mixed 350 grams of flour with one egg yolk, half a package of fresh yeast dissolved in a little milk and sugar, and a little oil. I asked her for the exact recipe... but she says it is all like improvisation. 😂
When the dough rose, she spread the mass with a rolling pin and we placed it in a baking pan.

We covered the dough, once placed in the pan, with chopped plums and figs. The original recipe is with plums, and we ate it many times when we were children. Back then, my grandmother used to make it for lunch, when there wasn't much other choice. Honestly, this is simple and the ingredients are not expensive. With some soup, we weren't complaining about this menu. Those were different times.

Since this is our first time trying this pie with figs, my mom decided to make just a smaller portion of the entire pie for the experiment. You know, if it fails, at least we have some edible part with plums. 😆

The next step was to sprinkle the fruit with cinnamon, and cover it with sour cream into which we mixed a little sugar.

Ready for baking:

After half an hour of baking in the previously heated oven, I took out the pie and let it cool down. With a big knife, I cut the baked pie into pieces.

It is nicer if I serve it in a little plate. The result is not bad at all, actually, it is very tasty! I think next time my mom can make the whole pie of figs, without any fear.
The experiment was successful - the patients who ate from the pie survived. 😂
