OMG 😱 !! It's like a dream come true to finally write about this particular street food in my country in Nigeria and it doesn't really worth he hype.
It's more like a snack, and the name of this particular snack or street food is called SHAWARMA if you're a Nigerian you must have had a taste of this particular snacks. Everyone is really going crazy about this particular street food, as for me I don't really see anything special in shawarma aside from the fact that it has a lot of soft chicken in it, I'm a lover of chickens, especially the soft ones. Another beautiful thing about shawarma is that it is so sweet and mouth watering, maybe because the chickens are so soft and tender ( LOL I'm still emphasizing on the chicken) that's how much I actually love chicken especially when it's so so soft 👌.
The origin of shawarma
The way shawarma is being hyped and the most talked about street food in Nigeria, it will make one think, it's a Nigerian originated street food, lemme burst your bubble 🫰. Shawarma was originated from the ottoman empire centuries ago.
The spread of shawarma
You may be wondering how did shawarma spread so wild to the extent its reached Nigeria and other countries and became an important street food in Nigeria, let's talk about how shawarma got to spread nationwide.
As the Ottoman empire started expanding, this make shawarma spread throughout the whole middle East, making it possible for each country or any country that the ottoman empire extended to, actually add an ingredient to the shawarma recipe, in ancient Egypt this particular street food ( shawarma) is being served with some spicy tomato sauce, meanwhile in Turkey, shawarma is being served with pickled veggies. Now this clarifies that shawarma is not a Nigerian originated street food.
Ingredients used in making shawarma
To be able to prepare a very delicious shawarma you need very quality ingredients and spices, shawarma is made with different ingredients. I would be mentioning them below 👇
✨ Soft chicken
✨ Mayonnaise
✨ Paprika
✨ Milk
✨ Salt
✨ Ketchup
✨ Sausage (Hotdog)
After the listed ingredients are mixed together, it is being wrapped with a flat stick baked dough after which it's being pre-heated in a grill or an oven, after some minutes of being pre-heated it is served and ready to eat. YUMMY 😋 !
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS
This street food has some side effects, but I'll mention the most dangerous ones. It is high in calories which actually makes people to add weight and can lead to obesity, if it is regularly consumed, spices are also high in cholesterol and this can lead to cardiovascular problems in the body system.
Sometimes too much consumption of shawarma can lead to digestive problems, this is due to the spice used in preparing it, and this can cause heartburn and stomach bloating ( NOT EVERYONE EXPERIENCE THE SAME SIDE EFFECTS) .
Some ingredients used in making shawarma are not good for human consumption. Like SAUSAGE (HOTDOG)
Let's talk about the disadvantage of sausage or why it's not good for human consumption.
** DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS**
Sausage has carcinogen, CARCINOGEN IS AN AGENT THAT CAN CAUSE DEADLY SICKNESSES TO GO TO HUMANS AND ANIMALS, sicknesses like cancer e.t.c
Carcinogen is so dangerous, it can also be found in tobacco, cigarette, Radon gas and heavy metals. All this approves that the intake of carcinogen and the body system is like exposing our body system so cancer and other dangerous diseases.
Aside from the side effect I mentioned earlier, in my opinion sausage ( hot dog) should be excluded from the ingredients used in making shawarma, and also the spices should also be moderate so that the consumers, won't suffer from heartburn and improper digestion.
I think with this adjustments, shawarma will be a good meal and a good snack and a very healthy street food suitable for human consumption, knowing fully well there's no side effects attached.
I'm really glad to share my opinion on this street food with y'all.
