Chilling on a Day Off

in Daily Blog3 months ago (edited)

Hello friends and Hivians. I hope you are all doing well and hope the weekend ahead holds good things for you. For today's post I'm going to share what I was up to today on day I took off.

After some brushing up with some coffee I headed out to spoil myself some. The first thing I did was go to a nail shop to get a pedicure. I was over due it's been like 6 months or longer. No foot pictures because the technician that was working on me couldn't stop talking or looking up at me. Now I did put too much cologne on this morning by accident. Was this it?

The next thing I did was get a massage. Yesterday we had a large group of personnel depart out. A lot of bags to throw in the belly of a 757. Not to mention we were short a few bodies so I touched a lot of bags. My back and legs were sore today. I got fixed pretty well with a deep tissue massage!

I didn't have breakfast this morning so my next stop was a place to get something to eat. I was feeling that some Mexican cuisine would hit the spot. Now I wanted authentic food so I headed to South Omaha, an area that has a large Hispanic community.

There are about a dozen Mexican restaurants in this area. It was not busy at all. A matter of fact I was the only customer for most of the time I spent there. A small cozy place not super fancy. If anything it worked out to my benefit because when I took pictures my flash went off because it wasn't well lit.

I was thinking nice small little place their menu was not. I was in between about 10 things I wanted to have, haha. Sometimes small menus make things easy right. I got my complementary chips and salsa at this time as well. Two sauces one mild one spicy. The spicy one wasn't too spicy it just gave my throat the feeling it was cleaned and cleared. Alright it had some heat, hehe.

Alright I got a combo meal which included a beef chile relleno, beef enchilada and a beef taco. It came with refried beans, rice and a heck a lot of cheese. Mexicans do not go light on cheese. I mean there's more cheese on this plate than a large cheese pizza would have. Where is the enchilada and chile relleno? Buried in cheese of course. Anyways the food was tasty and I much felt I needed to loosen my belt after I finished 😂

Well I can't leave, go home and be lazy with my bloated belly. I will surely plump down and fall asleep. I decided to embark on a little walk of the Hispanic community. After all I got new tires (got a pedi!), legs & back feel great (ty maseuse) and I'm fueled (oh lunch).

It was nice walk and they have everything in this 8 block or so area filled with so much culture. Groceries, furniture, clothing, bars, restaurants, post office, on street apartments, banks, museums and you name it. I did window shopping by not going inside the stores. Well I looked without out stopping anyways. There was one place I noticed on the other side of the street I visited once I decided to cross the street and turn around.

I don't miss the written word ice cream, it could have read nieve or helado I would not have been fooled, haha. I had to check out or should I say try 😁

It was very colorful and decorated on the inside. It's sort of a grill and chill place. I appreciated all the seating though it was mostly empty. They had a nice selection of pinatas. Pinatas are paper mache designs often filled up with candy. They are usually hung via a rope from tree and a blind folded kid with a baseball bat tries to hit it to bust it open.

A big selection of ice cream but I just wanted a cup of it. I asked the server which one is the most popular. She gave me three different kinds and offered if I want to taste each one. Oh I did and hands down my favorite was pine nut. Sorry too much glare down from heaven on the display window to share a picture of all twelve flavors.

Mexican ice cream is a bit different as most don't have dairy in them. The icy crystals are a big make up of it. All this doesn't matter because this was absolutely delicious. The pine nuts which I didn't find crunchy are toasted and are sort of soft in a good way. Since I added to the bread basket I decided to walk a little more.

Like I mentioned already there is a lot of culture here in this area. I've shared numerous murals in this area before but these were two I never noticed before. So it was cool to bump into these. Both of them speak of Mexican customs and their culture. I will end it here on these murals. I had a great day today. I hope you have the same on your next one!

Take care, stay safe and enjoy the weekend! Until next time!

A day well spent😁. Those foods, I like cheese. Anything that is cheesy, and a perfect walk to help digest those foods😬😜

On cheese works with a lot of things, right? Hehe the walk was needed plus if I had not done it I would have missed out on some ice cream 🍦🍨

If not, there's no room for ice cream 😜

😋 😋 🍦🍦

The best part of mexican food is always the cheese! I think everything they make is drizzled in cheese 😂 and the spices.

Yup Mexican food covered and filled with cheese. I remember one time I ordered three cheese enchiladas, oh goodness it took forever to eat because I had to chew cheese before swallowing it 😂

The combo meal makes sense
It looks really nice
You had a nice day!

Thanks it was tasty and yes plenty cheesy, hehe

What a nice day off Sir @coolmidwestguy

Sometimes, we need to give time for ourselves to relax and have peace after a stressful days at work 😊

I liked the Mexican food and the ice cream 🍨
It looks very delicious and the place is so colorful. I liked the mural painting and the architectural design of the buildings on that area Sir

It's a great area that always seems filled with cars. Many were hanging in the shades in rest areas. Filled the stomach with hot food and cold treats but worked some of it checking things out. I guess I did some balancing 😁

That's good Sir. I am happy for you. Balancing is very important 😊

It all looks so comfortably Midwestern!

Great time out today and it was all a wrap by 3 p.m. Thanks as always 😁

Wow what a relaxing day you've had. You deserve it. Do you have nice feet? hahaha... feet are the reflection of the soul, no, I mean, the eyes are the reflection of the soul. She was looking at your eyes. Oh what a mess. Wait, it's just that I got to the part about the food and I started to freak out. Honestly, I like ice cream with milk. And although I have very, very favourite flavours, I wouldn't miss others. Because I like ice cream in general. Oh, you know that already.
I enjoyed walking around the Hispanic neighbourhood.

Oh where do I start with my eyes or feet 😂 The ice cream was tasty and I did not even notice the fact it was missing milk. I wish the pictures turned out better so I could have shared the other flavors. I know there was strawberry creme, coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and something with pecans. The others had names I'm not familiar with. It was a great couple of hours in the Hispanic neighborhood. I even was spoken to in Spanish, you see I blended in well, jaja.

Nice meal at that Mexican joint! That looks good! Follow that with the ice cream and I would be done! I've only ever driven through Omaha, never stopped there though and that was years ago while moving back to the east coast. Wasn't much time for sight seeing!

Sure looks like a nice place though!

It's not a too shabby of a city. There is much to see and do here without the crazy traffic that larger cities have.
