It's that time of the year when the streets of Kampong Glam transform into an incredible food bazaar. Endless rows of food stalls offer a wide variety of cuisines to suit every palate. The streets are brightly lit, bursting with color, and filled with the irresistible aroma of sizzling grills, serving dishes you won’t easily find elsewhere in the city.
I had the chance to visit recently, and I’m excited to share the experience with you!
Welcome to this year’s Gemilang Kampong Glam!
There are plenty of ways to enter the venue, and I chose to go through Jalan Sultan Road. I happened to spot the colorful archway from the road, which reminded me that the event takes place this time of year.
Gemilang is held here in Kampong Glam, running from February 19 to March 25. That means there's still plenty of time to check it out and indulge in as many delicious foods as possible during this month-long event!
The entrances are blocked by barriers because the streets have been pedestrianized and transformed into a row of food stalls—all offering Halal versions of popular cuisines from around the world. I spotted Western, Middle Eastern, Malaysian, Mexican, and even Thai dishes!
Among the many food options, my favorite has to be Ashes Burnit’s charcoal burger!
There's something new this year that I didn't notice last time, and it seems to be a big hit—Mexican "smashed" tacos!
What I love about this kind of street food bazaar is that it involves a lot of walking to explore the stalls. The walking helps build up an appetite, making me ready for the next dish. But of course, I don’t plan on getting a food coma this time—there are still plenty of chances to revisit and try more delicious bites!
Since the Sultan Mosque is the heart of the event, every street you walk down eventually leads in its direction. Around the mosque, you'll find even more food stalls offering unique cuisines and delicious snacks.
Kampong Glam already boasts a great variety of restaurants, but transforming the streets into a food bazaar makes it a true food haven. There are plenty of options, and many of the dishes are reasonably priced. I saw kebabs and tacos ranging from SGD 4 to SGD 6, and even burgers priced at SGD 6, which is a pretty good deal!
Gemilang Kampong Glam is truly a must-visit for food lovers, offering a vibrant mix of global flavors in a lively street bazaar setting. With so many delicious and affordable options, there's always something new to try with each visit. If you haven’t checked it out yet, don’t miss the chance to experience this food haven before the event ends!
