This month is still the fasting month of Ramadan for me and other Muslims. So we still have to fast. Before fasting we are advised to eat in the early morning before entering the morning. It is called eating sahur.
So, we really wake up early in the morning to prepare food for sahur. Honestly, I have to have a lot of strategies for that to prepare fast food. But it's not a bad thing to eat like instant noodles or other canned foods. Instead, I prepare some ready-made seasonings, although I don't always cook using these seasonings. I only use them when I'm in a pinch.
I looked into my food supplies in the kitchen pantry. I have chayote. I thought for a moment about the seasoning I would use. Aaaaha! I still have a supply of curry seasoning!
With the help of instant curry seasoning, I don't even need to add anything else, even onions or coconut milk.
This instant seasoning is really suitable in urgent situations but it doesn't mean it's suitable for everyday use because we should avoid instant things as much as possible, right?
In addition to having chayote, I also have tofu that I will combine. After all, there must be protein ingredients.
Then, for the cooking method I only need to mix them into a cooking pot. But to really save time and energy while doing other things, I will use a rice cooker.
That's right, you heard right because I will use a rice cooker, a rice cooker is highly recommended for those of you who are in urgent time or for example you run out of gas to cook. By cooking using a rice cooker, I can also do other things. It's like I put all the ingredients together, then close the rice cooker and I can leave it for a while while I do other things.
THE INGREDIENTS
- 150 grams of chayote
- 100 grams of tofu
- 500 ml of water
- 50 grams of instant curry paste
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
Prepare the chayote. Here I use a large chayote. You can use a small chayote.
Before peeling the chayote, I cut the chayote into two parts. After cutting the chayote into two parts, I rub the two parts to remove the sap.
After removing the sap of the chayote, peel the chayote, then wash it clean. And cut the chayote into cubes.
STEP 2
I prepare a rice cooker first or you can use general cooking pan. Heat the curry paste until fragrant.
STEP 3
Add the chayote pieces. Stir well. Cook briefly until the curry paste is absorbed.
Add water, then cook for about 5-8 minutes. Or until the chayote is not too soft.
STEP 4
Add the tofu at the last minute. I cooked them for about three more minutes, then I removed them.
THE RESULTS
For me, this is a good practical dish. Especially I can cook it with a rice cooker. In fact, I used to use this method a lot when I was still an employee with minimal cooking equipment.
This doesn’t look bad for something that easy to make, right? Well, I like my chayote texture to be a little crunchy and not mushy but you can adjust that to your own taste.
