CCC's Street Art Contest #199 One Last Mural in Council Bluffs, Iowa

in StreetArt3 months ago

Hello friends and Hivers. Today I enter the CCC's Street Art Contest #199 brought to us by @digi-me. There's still time to enter if your interested. Just make sure to check out the article and follow the rules by clicking here.

Last Saturday I went out to check out some murals in my locale. I showed you three of them in my entry to last week's competition, if you didn't see them you can click here. There was a fourth one which was a large sectioned out one into 8 separate pieces. This is the one I will share with you today. I couldn't get a great picture of the whole thing, so for my entry today I will choose one of the 8 sections.

The reason I couldn't get a great shot was there was no room. I took this photo with my back up against another building off a bike trail. I tried some angle shots as well but there were too many obstacles in the way.

This mural was painted by Artist Betni Kalk and is named, "Rails to Trails: Evolution of Transportation." It's located on a building with the address of 15 S. 20th Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I really like this big and in charge mural which high lights some different types of transportation throughout time with the Loess Hills of Council Bluffs in it as the back ground. It hits home to me a bit because I'm fascinated with transportation related things. Plus I have worked in the Transportation sector along with my current job which is in Logistics.

Here is the front of the building. Interesting choice of a building because this building has been through an evolution of change as well. In its begining days it was a train maintenance facility and still has the railroad tracks along side it though there exempt now. Today it is a car maintenance center. It's good this old building still has a use asides from the beautiful mural on its rear side. Let's take a closer look at each section with my entry photo first 😊

Entry Photo 5 of 8

I have decided to make this mural my entry photo. It's location is the 5th section from the left. I just like how it's got some cool subject matter in the mural. The lady walking the dog, some flowers and the horse & buggy in the distance just gives me the feel that it's a beautiful day to be outside in this setting. We normally don't walk our four legged friends on bad weather days.

Here are the rest of the murals in order from left to right. I tell you I was in between picking just one for my entry photo. As I was taking pictures a bike rider stopped and asked if I would take his picture near the mural with the bicycle. The thing that strikes me about these murals is the surface is not flat. Some of the bricks are raised and it amazes me how the artist was able to line up everything. It surely takes some skills in which I don't have 😂

This mural really portrays that better days are to come. It's really beautiful with the make up of the flowers, hills and clouds. The other things such as the monarch and the bee give it a real feel.

As far as transportation theme of the mural the early 20th century car, 19th century horse & buggy and the steam engines show travel of the past. The modern day looking bicycle and the kids playing on the scooters are human powered devices used today.

It was a joy taking in this one and capturing some photos so I could share with all of you. I hope you enjoyed this large sectional mural. If I may ask which one do you like the most?

Take care, stay safe and I hope I can find some more murals for the big 200th anniversary of this contest next week. Until next time!

great how a mural could transform how an old building look new and cool. there is not much mural in this part of the city i am in , sadly

Glad you liked, I like how the artist still decided to work despite not having a flat surface. Yes building is a bit more fresh with this mural on it. Thanks for dropping by 😊

nonflat surfaces make it extra challenging

The murals look nice and I think I love the seventh one a lot
It’s classy

Yes the automobile is cool in that one. Perhaps a century old car show was happening, haha

Beautiful mural, very colorful. Perfect for brightening up those grey walls. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Enjoy your day

👍

It is beautiful, I love the flowers, here they are called "mystical rose", and they are very delicate, if you pluck one the entire plant dies, despite this, its beauty is admirable.

I agree very beautiful and the whole thing reminds me of spring/summer.

Nice murals. It added the beauty of the area. Kudos to all the artists! 🫶

Thank you it certainly does add beauty to the area. I'm glad you enjoyed them 😁

The artist of the murals is great.😊 He even understands the assignment. Thank you for sharing.😊

It was a joy witnessing it for awhile sometimes the top of the mural blend in with the real sky.

How great it is to be able to witness the mural blended in the sky.😊 You're a lucky one.😊

All of them looks pretty. I also find it hard to choose which is which, for they are all beautiful♥️.

Thanks for the appreciation they all look spectacular as a whole but couldn't get a great picture which you could see all the details. I have run out of street murals to share I have to go searching again when I get some more time. 😊
