By this day in 2019, my team and I had already assigned different tasks to everyone regarding my birthday...
2019 was one of those years I can't forget in a hurry. It was the year I was away, far from home, serving my nation in a programme called NYSC, designed for fresh graduates to serve the nation for a period of one year in various locations across Nigeria. During that time, I was fortunate to lead a group and when it was my birth month, MAY of that year, I decided to make it a very memorable one by gathering the people to feast and laugh together.
My birthday comes every 17th of May and this same time last year, every plan was made already and tasks were assigned to everyone. I mean, ladies were assigned the tasks of cooking food while the guys were assigned to provide chairs, music, lighting, and others.
The food:
I spent a very minimal amount of money to prepare food that served up to 50 guests. Yeah, we settled for a food that's not mostly used at parties and that's local African food of Eba and vegetable soup and it served everyone well because all the guests had their dinner there. The drinks were mainly soft drinks and we had just a little amount of alcohol which was taken by the "sharp" guys. The soft drinks were plentiful, and everyone received up to three bottles. Yeah, things were a little bit fine economically during that year.
The night was filled with fun. The Mc understood the environment very well and it cracked us up a lot. We didn't hire a DJ, we only got a big speaker, an amplifier and we played music from the phone.
I was forced to dance, forced to take a girlfriend because I had none and other things I was forced to do because I was the celebrant.
Mehn, reminiscing that night is giving me nostalgia.
