Belhaven Best ~ The Cream of Scottish 🏴 Beer on Beer 🍺 Saturday
It's another week so time for another beer! So what delights have I got in store for you this week?
Of course the clue is in the title!
Yes the drink we are having is Belhaven Best.
We are going to a pub that I have not been to before, and as you can see it is a bit off the beaten track!
I tell you what, I saw this sign ... saying ...
A GLASS OF GOOD CHEER
I like it and it bodes well when you see something like that!
We are here, and the pub was called Home Farm View and I am guessing this is or was on Home Farm, as it is right on the outskirts of town! The open countryside is where we are now.
Inside you had mellow Christmas decorations and a happy workforce, I like that.
Did you see the big PUB & GRILL signage at the front entrance. That is a chain that is owned by Greene King Brewery.
I asked what beers they had on tap, and the only beer to me was Belhaven Best.
The rest were lagers, and I only drink them when I have to.
Cheers 🍻everyone and Merry Christmas 🎄🎅
This post then is about the beer Belhaven Best which is from the Belhaven Brewery. More of that in a minute.
It was a burger day ....
I got the chargrilled chickem burger, and fluff me it was a fluffing big piece of chicken breast that was cooked to perfection. It was juicy and melted in my mouth.
We both got upsold onion rings, but they were excellent too. Mrs T had a ridiculously tasty beefburger that was made with some delicious beef.
The beer was flowing and went so well with the food.
Mrs T had a gin and tonic. She prefers the tall glass, I think this goblet they use is an excuse to just give you more ice and no gin!
You could not fault the food. It was cooked to perfection and came with all the trimmings.
A little bit about Belhaven Brewery...
It was established in 1719 and is the oldest working brewery in Scotland. They do brewery tours and as it is on my side of the country in Dunbar maybe I can put on my to-do list for 2025.
The brewery nestles amongst the rolling barley fields of East Lothian 20 miles or so from Edinburgh.
It is a creamy beer and very low in alcohol but it is also refreshing at any time of the year!
An empty glass means beer is in my tummy and it is time to delve into the stats!
What about the Stats....
Source Belhaven Brewery
At Belhaven we have a passion born of a proud brewing heritage. With a dedicated team drawing on a brewing tradition that dates back over 300 years we create friendly and approachable beers bursting with Scottish character, using malted barley, fresh spring water from a local source together with our unique Belhaven yeast.
As the home of Scottish Brewing, we pride ourselves in producing Scotland’s No.1 Ale (Belhaven Best) and No.1 Stout (Belhaven Black), alongside our award winning range of craft beers and ales, all made using our fresh water source, barley and unique Belhaven yeast.
There are about five or six Belhaven beers I think, so I shall review a few more in 2025.
Belhaven Best is a balanced, refreshing and easy drinking smooth session ale at 3.2%
Belhaven Best is available on smooth keg and in widget can, and is brewed from malted barley, fresh local water and our unique Belhaven yeast. It is a bright amber colour ale with malty aromas all crowned with a smooth creamy head.
Characteristics provided by my Gemini AI account...
Belhaven Best presents a bright amber color with a smooth, creamy head. It features a rich honey-amber color and a lingering creamy beige head.
The aroma is primarily malty, with notes of toffee and caramel thanks to the pale and crystal malts used in the brewing process.
My Verdict
I enjoyed it as I always do. I shudder to think how many pints I have drank of Belhaven best over the years!
It goes without saying that I would have it again with or without food! It is only 3.2% so not a strong pint, but it is so creamy!
It was malty and I have to agree, it was easy to drink!
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
