We live a simple life here on our farm, and most of the time, our food comes from our surroundings. Behind our farm house, there is a small sapa. Sometimes we go there to get fish for our ulam. Today, we were able to catch tilapia, so that is what we cooked.

Tilapia is very common for us, and it is also my daughter’s favorite fish. We usually cook it in different ways like fried, sinugba, sabaw, and pinaksiw. For today, we decided to cook pinaksiw na tilapia because it is simple and easy to prepare.

After catching the fish, we went to our backyard to get some santol. We have a santol tree there, and it has many fruits. Some of them are high, so we only pick the ones we can reach. We got enough santol to add to our dish.

We brought everything home and started preparing. First, we washed the tilapia using water from our pump. Then we cleaned it properly. After that, we prepared the ingredients like onion, garlic, ginger, and santol.

My daughter always wants to help me whenever I cook. I let her join because I want her to learn simple tasks at home. She is always excited when she is included in cooking. She helped me put the ingredients into the kaldero while I supervised her.

We then started cooking the pinaksiw. We just let it boil and waited for the fish to cook well. The smell of tilapia mixed with ginger, garlic, and santol filled our small kitchen while cooking.

After a while, the food was ready. We served it and ate together. My daughter was very happy because she helped prepare the food. She enjoys it more when she is part of the process.

The taste was simple but fresh because the fish came directly from the sapa and the santol from our backyard. We did not need to buy everything from the market.

Thank you for reading my story, this is my owned picture and experience. This is our simple life here on the farm. We rely on what is available around us. Simple food, simple living, and time with family is what we have every day. Have a nice day! 💛
