During one of my trips to Bohol, Philippines, I discovered a café that sells calamay buns. For those who don’t know, calamay is the island’s most famous delicacy, a sweet and sticky treat made with peanuts.
Calamay buns, on the other hand, are simply bread filled with calamay. When I first heard about them, I immediately thought of Camiguin’s pastel delicacy. Both are similar in size, but they differ in their fillings.
On the last day of our trip, we decided to visit the café in Tagbilaran, the island’s capital city, where this delicacy is made. Tucked in the heart of the city, is where CocoBerry Café is situated. The café has more to offer than just its signature buns.
What I first noticed was the spacious interior. The café is well-lit, making it a good spot for students to study and for others to just hang out. Personally, I was happy to stay there since I needed to work remotely and the fact that they offered free Wi-Fi for customers was a big plus.
During our visit, we ordered a burger, sizzling brownie with ice cream, milk tea, and strawberry Yakult. To be honest, I can’t stop thinking about their sizzling brownie with ice cream! I absolutely loved the combination of the warm brownie and the cold ice cream. I devoured the entire thing in just a few minutes!
We probably only stayed for about an hour, but even though the visit was short, I’m glad we discovered this café and had the best brownie ever!
If you ever find yourself in Bohol, make sure to drop by this café in Tagbilaran. Whether you’re craving something unique like the calamay bun, looking for a cozy space to work or study, or simply in the mood for a sweet treat, this spot is definitely worth a visit. Who knows, you might also end up finding your own favorite dish just like I did with their sizzling brownie!
