When I studied at university, I used to walk a lot.
I walked 5 km per day, just going to the university campus in the morning and coming back home in the evening.
Although it didn't feel like having proper exercise, such as jogging or going to the gym, it had the desired effect, and helped me to keep a slim body back then.
So, why did I walk that much every day?
First of all, I had to go to uni to attend classes.
I couldn't afford to buy a car, and the same applied to the majority of students those days.
Getting a taxi was too expensive.
If I wanted to use the bus, I had to catch two buses to go and another two buses to return, and walking could save me the cost of tickets, so that I could buy a snack or small meal for lunch with the same money.
Besides, believe it or not, it was much quicker to go on foot than by bus.
Using a bicycle was not a good option due to windy and rainy weather.
