Greetings everyone 🙌
My immediate younger brother lived with me until he travelled away for NYSC in the middle of last year. During that period, he would get scratchy staying at his base, hence visiting my place on a monthly basis. Anytime he comes around, my minimalist lifestyle on feeding would loosen a bit, which I tried to control, but it was hard because he automatically turns into the chef of the house whenever he visits, providing a bit of relief for me too with regards to cooking.
In one of the weeks he came around, I went to the market to buy fish for our meals. I bought two types of fish, one dried and the other fresh. I intended to use the fresh one to prepare food in the evening while using the dried one the next day for another meal. As I got home, my phone rang, and I was called by a customer for a delivery. Luckily, my brother had returned from where he went.
"Check the table; I bought fish. I wanted to prepare soup, but I was called out. Please use the fish to prepare the soup," I said to him as I picked up my phone and left. I had walked out of the room before I remembered that I needed to tell him not to use the dried fish.
I rushed back quickly and said, "Please use only the fresh one; keep the dried one for tomorrow."
He was with the nylon containing the fishes already, and my instructions sounded odd to him. He couldn't hold it; he raised the nylon, staring at the almost invisible content in the black nylon, and asked, "You mean this small fish?"
"I've told you! Use only the fresh one!" I said it in a loud voice as I walked away.
I finished my task around 7:10 p.m. and was heavily hungry. Upon getting home, I found the house smelling nice, with delicious soup. I moved directly to the kitchen to quench my hunger, only to find the dried fish inside the soup with the fresh one. My anger stirred up; I couldn't eat anymore because I was boiling already. I got up and went to meet him in the room.
"So, you didn't listen to what I instructed. You think I don't know what I meant when I told you to keep the dried fish?"
He dropped his phone, looked at me, and muffled a smile. "Why do you like to economise so much? Didn't it taste good the way I used the two fishes?" He said this in the midst of laughter while staring at me that's standing before him with a pot lid in my hand.
"I used my last money to buy those fish, and..."
"It's okay! I will go to the market tomorrow," he interrupted, sounding like he has millions of naira in his account.
"Bro, it's high time you stop this lifestyle. Try and eat rich meals. All the money you've been saving and not touching will be channelled to me if you mistakenly slump off one day." He kept joking.
"Mtcheeew! Rich food, you say? All the food you've been eating, they're poor foods, right?" I hissed and left for the kitchen to quench the hunger that's humbling my stomach already.
Because he's my brother, I found it very hard to pick a deep offense with him. The offense only died off at that moment.
However, he insisted on buying fish the next day, which we used to prepare another food the day.
