Winter has dealt a sneaky blow to all green nature again!
The weather forecast promised us a big snowfall on Friday - and so it happened, just one day later - on Saturday. My friend living in Karelia (200 km north of my city) said in their area there fell 15 cm of snow! Of course, the snow clouds reached St.Petersburg thinner, but still - it got very cold, and it lasted for two days... the plants that began to awaken and stand up, open their delicate tissues, received a sensitive blow, and some will probably not recover from this...
I took some spectacular photos, but regretted not bringing a macro lens with me. In this post you will see photos taken over two days; on the second day, Sunday, the snow had already melted and there was very little left; there was almost nothing interesting to find and photograph.
This is not a plant - this is a small sprout of a tree.
On this photo under the snow you see dandelion leafs - it is a very powerful weed, it’s not afraid of frost... and sometimes I think dandelions are not afraid of anything at all! (I once came across a blooming dandelion in late-December! in the middle of winter.... I was simply shocked!) And by the way, during a walk on Sunday I came across a lawn of blooming dandelions - as you understand, this snowfall definitely did not bother them much 🤓
On the second day (on Sunday) I changed lens to 140mm macro. But most of the snow by this time have gone!
I returned to the same location on Sunday; you see the tree sprout, dandelion leaves - and not a single sign of snow that was lying here yesterday!
Daffodils prepare to bloom. They are so fragile, delicate, thin... touchy.
Not sure what plant it is, but the meaty sprouts seems feel quite comfortable and brave among the ice and snow!
Fluffy aspen's 'ear-rings' are scattered all around, on the trees branches and on the ground.
And I found a lot of sleeping acorns.... which are ready to awake too! Under the skin, some of them hide a surprisingly juicy scarlet color. I had an idea for an art photo.... I won’t say it out loud yet. :P Let me round up my story at this point. See you next time! And I wish you have clear skies and warm sunny weather!
