Yards of St.Petersburg - 14 etudes in monochrome

Hello my dear friends and monochrome lovers. Today I invite you to walk with me across the courtyards of St.Petersburg's residential disticts. The city is famous with its courtyards, there is always a room for surprising finds and cool architectural landscapes; and in #monochrome they look better most of the time! So, lets go.

A slice of clean sky.

Closed yard.

Arcade perspective.

Garages. Note the little 'Miru Mir' inscription in the left corner. =)

Graffiti all over the area.

More graffiti... floating down the walls. This yard is not car parking-friendly.

Church.

Entrance to the inner yard. First cigarette on the way to the office.

'Aurora' cinema theatre - the oldest which the city have preserved. Was founded back in 1914 - so, it is celebrating the 110 anniversary this year (thats why these huge '110' figures at the entrance).

The tiny wooden bridge in the yard.

A dying progression; not complete silence yet, but approaching to it.

I wonder will the plantation in the yard can grow well except for the tree? since it looks like its surrounded with walls.

This is the key question actually. Yes and no in one flack.

Mostly no - cause there is a serious limitation of solar light, and soil is being killed with human hands and idiot brains (plants are dying even where they happen to grow well).

On another hand, habitants of some yards value plants and flowers a lot, cause they are in huge deficit, and put a lot of extra efforts to help them grow. Now you understand me even more, why I !LUV shooting macro of wild nature and value my rare visits to wildnature oases outside the city so much. !PIZZA

he. hehehe. hoho! well, we do. my Hive Tree have grown, and there are pretty much green leaves on it.... there are even some tiny fruits on several branches. 🤓

I live in a beautiful, tourist city - full of places of intrest. Its not as great as Venice in Italy, but still nice. Just the weather is.. meh.

The city is quite spacious, with regular structure - not like Moscow, with medieval 'fortress-centered' structure. But that is of the streets and squares... the yards space is pretty dense packed. 8-)

What a beautiful church and cinema! I guess graffiti is a universal problem in the big cities... Those pictures in black and white really give it an old feel, like they were taken in the 1930's. Great work!
