As a person who specializes in reviewing food and drink places, every time I travel to a beach area, I always look for cafes or food spots that serve good drinks and have a nice space to relax. On my recent trip to Sam Son, I visited Coco Sea, located right inside the FLC Sam Son complex, Thanh Hoa city. The experience was quite good.
Coco Sea is located inside the FLC tourist area, so it is easy to find. From my hotel, I just needed to walk a few minutes. The shop is on the main street, so people walking in the morning or afternoon can easily see it.
Outside the shop is a low-chair seating area, designed in the style of Vietnamese street cafes. Small tables and chairs under trees, relaxing to sit and watch people pass by. Inside, it is different – spacious and airy, with tables placed far enough for comfort. It is suitable for working, studying, or chatting. The space is not fancy but clean and comfortable. Especially, there is a banh mi cart outside the shop, with ingredients like pate, pork rolls, and pickles displayed on top. So besides drinks and ice cream, Coco Sea also serves breakfast, which is convenient for tourists who don’t want to go far to eat.
What I like about Coco Sea is that the shop does not try to overcharge tourists like some other places in tourist zones. The menu includes:
Common drinks such as lemon tea, fresh milk with brown sugar boba, juice, smoothies, coffee, etc.
Ice cream here is from the Ha Long yogurt boba brand, which is a popular chain with locations everywhere.
The prices are reasonable: drinks cost from 1.5 to 2 USD (about 35,000 to 50,000 VND). This is a good price for a place inside a tourist area.
I ordered two items:
Fresh milk with brown sugar boba
I liked it a lot. The first thing that impressed me was the look of the cup: brown sugar was brushed around the inside of the cup to create an amber pattern before adding boba and milk. The milk is 100% fresh milk, not diluted. The boba is soft, chewy, and clearly freshly cooked, not hard or old. The brown sugar is not too sweet and has a creamy taste, blending well with the milk.
Mango yogurt ice cream
This was another plus. The cup was full, with small mango cubes on top, sweet and a bit sour. Below was smooth, cold yogurt ice cream. When eating, I could feel the cold cream melting in the mouth, mixed with the sourness of mango and the light taste of yogurt. Very suitable for hot beach weather.
=> Total cost: 80,000 VND (~3.2 USD)
For me, this is a very reasonable price – even cheap – compared to other drink shops in resorts or coastal tourist areas. Especially, the yogurt boba ice cream has a fixed price listed by the Ha Long brand, so they cannot raise the price even inside FLC.
If you are staying in the FLC Sam Son area or passing by, I highly recommend visiting Coco Sea.
