Years ago, just as our parents and grandparents raised us, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve were moments where it was almost a family rule that all the members of the family gathered in the same house. There was a spectacular dinner where everyone brought a delicacy, and the others helped in the preparation of the dishes offered by the big house.

I lived through several changes on New Year's Eve, since my childhood the house where the New Year was welcomed was my uncles' house, then the date was shared between my uncles' house and my in-laws' house, later on, my house was one of the family gathering places to welcome the year, and finally, my sons, my mother, my daughter-in-law, my granddaughter and I, welcomed that moment in my house.

Yesterday was a day of many changes in our Christmas customs, the normal dinner that takes place in the house, where the table is filled with dishes, and everyone gathers to enjoy it, went to another plane, and instead, we spent a whole day 100% informal, in the pool, under a bohio, in front of a barbecue, preparing a delicious barbecue, toasting, listening to traditional music, without protocols, telling anecdotes, jokes, good times, singing and dancing, and so little by little the night fell, until closing 2023 and welcoming 2024.Pampering our pets so that the pyrotechnics did not affect them so much, which thank God this year was very brief, giving happy new year to those who are far away, exchanging photos, then a restful sleep resting from the long day, and starting 2024 with a good coffee, and a reheat. I can't be more grateful to God for so many wonderful things.

Con el tiempo las tradiciones van teniendo algunas variaciones, los cambios se dan según los momentos que vivimos, pero hay cosas que nunca dejan de existir, y es la unión familiar de los que estamos presentes, en el momento de culminar un año y dar inicio a otro lleno de ilusiones y expectativas.

Años atrás, tal y como nos criaron nuestros padres y abuelos, la nochebuena y la noche de víspera de año nuevo, eran momentos donde se hacía casi una regla familiar, que todos los miembros se reunieran en una misma casa. Se hacía una cena espectacular donde cada quien llevaba un manjar, y los demás ayudaban en los preparativos de los platillos que ofrecía la casa grande.

Yo viví varios cambios de víspera de año nuevo, desde mi infancia la casa donde se recibía el año era la de mis tíos, luego pasó a ser compartida la fecha entre la casa de mis tíos y la de mis suegros, más adelante, mi casa era uno de los sitios de reunión familiar para recibir el año, y finalmente, mis hijos, mi madre, mi nuera, mi nieta y yo, recibíamos ese momento en mi casa.

Ayer fue un día de muchos cambios en nuestras costumbres navideñas, la cena normal que se realiza en la casa, donde la mesa se llena de platillos, y todos se reúnen a disfrutarla, pasó a otro plano, y en su lugar, pasamos un día entero 100% informal, en la piscina, bajo un bohío, frente a una parrillera, preparando una deliciosa parrillada, brindando, escuchando música tradicional, sin protocolos, contando anécdotas, chistes, buenos momentos, cantando y bailando, y así poco a poco fue cayendo la noche, hasta cerrar el 2023 y recibir el 2024. Consintiendo a nuestras mascotas para que no les afectara tanto la pirotecnia, que gracias a Dios este año fue muy breve, dando feliz año a los que están lejos, intercambiando fotos, luego un sueño reparador descansando del largo día, e iniciando el 2024 con un buen café, y un recalentado. No puedo estar más agradecida con Dios por tantas cosas maravillosas.
