OK, this is where we really need to read the whole article ... they moved it to an even year to bring it in line with the midterm for turnout purposes ... that's been done across the country and is a pre-Trump move because turnout in odd years is SO LOW that incumbents usually cruise anyhow. This was handled badly ... but it is not the end of democracy
I did see that, but still. They are doing it NEXT year, not this year. Changing it this year isn't a good sign.
But it is 2025 -- to get to 2026, the next mid-term election, they have to do it this year. Now, if they were SMART, they would have done it years ahead like San Francisco so the people would have had a chance to know what the implication is and choose whether they wanted to extend the term on the ballot. Our previous mayor also served an extra year, but we knew in advance.
