Balancing Risk And Comfort In Your Life

in LeoFinancelast month

Almost everyone likes to eat out from time to time. For some people, it's the pure pleasure of trying new foods. For others, it's the comfort of a relaxing atmosphere.

When the time comes to dine out, do you tend to choose the same restaurants, or do you prefer to explore the undiscovered?

When you sit down at the restaurant, do you automatically order your favorite dish, or do you scan through the menu and pick something new?

Although it's a trivial example, these questions can be applied to more significant aspects of our lives, such as moving to a new city, or starting a small business.

What stops us from trying a new restaurant, or a new dish? Is embracing the unfamiliar a good thing, or a bad thing?

Food Comfort Zones

Whenever we step out of our comfort zones, we are taking a risk that we may or may not be rewarded for.

Trying a new restaurant involves some uncertainty. There's always a chance that you may not like the atmosphere, be disappointed by bad food, or discover that the service is subpar.

Travel Comfort Zones

The same concept can be applied to travel. At the end of the day, you don't know if you're going to end up loving, or hating your destination.

As a generally risk averse species, we humans tend to stick to the destinations we are already familiar with, especially if we already like them, and have grown accustomed to them over time.

But if we stick like glue to our favorite restaurants, foods, and destinations, we may end up missing out on good things that we would have discovered had we opted to explore and take more risks instead.

Comfort Zone Benefits

On the other hand, imagine if every time you ate out, ordered food, or traveled you chose something or somewhere totally new. What would be the disadvantages of such a lifestyle?

For one, you would be constantly faced with the risk of having a poor experience. You would also be continually entering into the unknown, and never settling into a familiar environment.

You would never form a lasting connection to a place, or to the people who live/work there. Therefore, one must take into consideration the drawbacks of constantly pushing their comfort zone as well.

Different Types Of People

We are all different people, and we are all at different stages in our lives. Some people tend to stay in their comfort zones, while others are more inclined to explore and try new things.

Whether or not staying in your comfort zone is a good or bad thing could simply depend on who you are. If you're someone with a preference for exploration, you may get restless going to the same restaurant every week.

Conversely, if you are someone who relishes in comfort, trying something new every weekend could become exhausting for you. You can probably survive without the nagging feeling that you might be missing out.

Until next time...
