Hi friends,
It's been a long time since I last visited the #theminimalist community, but reading the #kiss proposal that @minimalistliving has put forward this week I wanted to share with you my experience on how we can achieve a less is more that makes us more efficient, with an improvement in our health and in turn in line to preserve the environment.
Since about a year ago due to the exorbitant price that reached the electricity tariff in Spain, I set to work on achieving a reduction of energy expenditure and for this a series of practices have helped me a lot.
Detect energy thieves and act on them
Energy thieves are not people who come into your home and without you knowing you plug your electrical appliances if not those devices that when they are not in active use are still consuming energy while they are on standby.
Some examples that I found in my house is the typical TV or decoder that you leave plugged in permanently and that has an activity indicator LED.
A simple fact such as disconnecting it electrically allows us to save considerable energy when we are away from home and no one is using them.
Another energy thief and that we believe that does not consume when in standby is any power strip or connector that allows to derive current to several appliances. So in my case I have acted to have only the essential ones.
Did you know that the microwave is a great energy thief?
In fact, the simple fact of having the microwave connected consumes energy all day long. And if you have a microwave that continuously checks the time, the consumption in standby mode is even higher.
And without a doubt, a super energy thief we have in our homes are the chargers that we leave permanently plugged in to charge our devices, even if we don't have our phone plugged into the charger.
In turn, leaving a phone charging all night is a waste of energy, since after a few hours it will reach 100% charge and we will be spending extra energy until the next day, when we wake up.
Get out of the house, take a walk or read a book.
Another of my ways to consume less energy and get more personal benefit is to get out of the house more.
Going out, walking every day after work allows me to get away from the couch and away from consuming TV or in other words consuming energy. Also, moderate physical activity makes me feel better about myself.
And if the day is rainy and you can not walk as we want, I advise you to take advantage of the sunlight that remains the day next to a window to read a book. You will only consume brain energy.
Results
With these minimalist habits I have managed in the last year to reduce by 30% my daily energy consumption compared to the year 2023 with a good economic, physical and also environmental benefit.
Less is more.
Best regards.
