Amala is one of the native meals eaten in the southwestern part of Nigeria, especially by the Yoruba tribe. It is a type of food that is made from the flour gotten from Yam, Unripe plantain or cassava. It can be enjoyed with different types of soups, depending on one's preference. I reside in the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo state, Nigeria and it is very hard to see people from this town that wouldn't be a fan of Amala. I am not from this place but I have lived here all my life, plus, I am a Yoruba girl, why would I not love Amala?. Infact, why would anyone dislike Amala?!🤣

So, my elder brother (Cousin, precisely) had promised to take me to this very popular and super hyped Amala spot in the city of Ibadan. Eventually, we chose to go today at last and I was really looking forward to the outing. I wanted to see for myself, why the spot was so hyped by so many people. People literally come from far places to eat at that place, some even come from other states. Honestly, I just had to check what made the canteen so distinct from other spots to deserve such hype and recognition.

Choosing the outfit to put on was a struggle for me as always, I never know what to wear😂. Then, this brilliant idea came to my head to wear something that has a touch of our culture. Now, that's a bit dramatic, but then, why not? The first outfit I tried on was a bit extra, alhough the material came from tie and dye and should have been perfect, the style I made with it was a bit too much for the outing. I even went for a black trouser and an ankara top.

When I got to the location, I tried to take the picture of the place and I went in to find my cousin. It was a bit rowdy because the people that wanted to buy food were quite much. I wasn't suprised though, but it didn't change the fact that I dislike crowdy places. Here, you do not make orders, you pick your plate to collect your food section by section. We picked our plates, collected the Amala portions, collected ewedu soup and gbegiri, then proceeded to the next section to collect stew and meats. Their Amala portions were so small and their food was generally pricey, I was really hoping that the taste of the food will justify that.

We got our seats, washed our hands and sat down to devour the meal. It was actually good, but, I was still struggling to understand why the hype was that much. My brother asked me to rate the food over 10 and I gave it a 7, that was my honest rating for real. It was not as extraordinary as I thought it would be, I guess the hype made me expect more in a way😂 Additionally, the customer service was just there. The servers were kinda giving attitude but I was not suprised at all, it is very common to so many food sellers I have come across in my life. I guess it comes with the job, I would have been more surprised if they were shinning their teeth at me🤣

Well, we finished our meals and sat down for a while to gist, take pictures and videos. We left and my brother went back home while I went to say hello to a friend that stays around the neighborhood. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I thanked my brother a lot for the treat.

Thanks for reading❤️

You did not show us the outfit you later chose to wear.

About the place. Just like you, I don't like crowdy places. Also I don't like the fact that I can't order my food from my table. That alone is a no for me not to talk of the attitude their sellers were giving.

Oh, I actually did...I mentioned that I went for a black trouser and an ankara top, I inserted a picture as well.

Lol, I guess the fact that I wanted to have the experience didn't even let me put too much feelings to it. I will take you there one day, to have the experience as well.

Maybe people are just hyping them or, they have different taste and for them, it's the best that deserve a hype 😆. It is just like here in the Philippines. Some vlogger will hype a certain shop or products by giving it a really good review. It's like, all the shop they visit and the foods they tried is all delicious to them, lol. But the food here looks okay to me, it has that pricey vibe, lol, must be the plates, lol

This comment of yours is so hilarious😂😂 The plates?😂 Maybe you have a point, you know😌😌

Content creators actually contribute to the hyping of these places, but this particular spot was also hyped by random people. The food was really good but till now, I still don't understand the hype.

Hahaha, plating has a big factor when it was serve in our table right. Like our first impression into it is so good, but then when it's finally tasting time, uh-oh, how wrong we are, lol.

In most places like this what they sell is branding, the restaurant looks cool right from the outside, to the inside sitting down to the food plating.

I think most restaurant servers give such an attitude due to too many customers they have to attend to all the time, but that is not cool.

All in all you seem to had a great time in your outing with your cousin, and now I feel like eating some amala, ewedu and gbegiri hahahah😅😅

Ibadan residents love eating Amala. I expected to see a very dark-coloured Amala, but it looks mixed. Some people will rate any food 10/10 as long as they are satisfied, lol.

I enjoy Amala more when I prepare it though it's been a while.

I guess the attitude of the sellers is a result of the workload but then they should have managed it properly.

Thanks for sharing your weekend experience with us.

I popped in from Dreemport, a #dreemerforlife

The restaurant looks beautiful though but I always have a feeling that a hyped restaurant will eventually stain your white 🤣, well a good thing you get to experience what their services are like.

I popped in from Dreemport, always a #dreemerforlife.

If you give that plate of Amala now, the only thing I will take from there is the meat. Amala is not my kind of food.

The restaurant looks beautiful from the inside that to me, even without the hyping self, I would expect their food to taste like heavens😂

Oh I think the bubu was perfect or it wasn’t bubu I saw?
You should have worn that one rather. 7/10? Then the food must be nice o. I mean from my point of view as a Ghanaian

#dreemerforlife

Yes, it was bubu...but it would have been quite dramatic😂😭.

The food was actually nice, you should try it anytime you come around here. But then, I hope you try it at a place where it will be really good.

It wouldn’t have been dramatic , rich auntie vibes

Lol, you do have a point.

Jeeeeez!
So I read this while hungry and it got me salivating... It's just the meat though because I'm not a fan of that Yoruba hyped Amala

Eiii, how come?!😫😫

Amala is everything, especially when you have a really nice soup to eat it with.

Yeah, hype it.
Hype it oooo!

Is it not Yoruba again? Lol 😂

The only time I was close to eating it, the blackness did not allow me 😅

Lol, you are missing out on so much, trust me. If it is the blackness that is stopping you, there is an alternative-white amala.

White one?
Interesting. I haven't heard of such

😍😍😍 I love Amala but I think I prefer making it at home because going to Amala joint can be very costly for me.

I always wonder how many portions I would have to take to be satisfied 😃😃😃

Thank you for sharing.

Came in from dreemport

😂😂 that is true. At home, you need not to worry about portion size but when buying outside, you have to constantly be cautious of your pocket before placing orders.
