Hello, friends especially foodies!
Recently I wanted to have lunch in a Korean Restaurant, trying Jjampong for the first time in my life. I got curious of the flavour and couldn’t wait to try it. Well, my first time experience took place in Tae Yang Sung. One of the most popular Korean restaurants in my city. We tried to have the Korean food at their branch in Grand Indonesia – Central Jakarta. Actually i've ever seen so many customers were on waiting list for this restaurant's branch in another shopping center, so i hoped we could have lunch there that day and we made it. So, let me tell you about our experience there.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it was almost 12, so it was time for lunch. Many customers were inside before us. And here was the restaurant…
It looked bright and I did hope that we could get a table inside.
Lucky for us, we could get a table (only two tables left by the time we arrived there). Looked around, there were so many customers inside. Well they had some tables with a long sofa to share among those tables. You could see that they had photos of their dishes on their wall.
It was not a long time until I saw many customers were waiting outside, well, so lucky for us to get a table there then!
Anyway this restaurant has no lard and no park so it is safe for our moslem friends to dine in there. For the menu, you could see that this restaurant had Gyodong Jjampong which called Chadol if it had beef as its’ topping and Haemul if it had seafood toppings.
They also had variants of Bokkeum, gul jjampong, and bakkeum chadol jjajang.
And of course they had Jjajangmyeon.
Weirdly they put random in their menu, when I opened another page I found bokkeum chadol jjamppong, ramyeon, spicy beef mala jjamppong, gan jjajang, budae jjamppong, haemul baek jjamppong and dalk baek jjamppong in a page. Well it’s unfamiliar for me.
Next, they also had kind of rice, well their dosirak tempting me. Haha.
They had jjigae and for light bite they had kind of ddeokbokki.
Meanwhile, for the ala carte menu they had kkanponggi, tangsooyook, dalk ganjeong jumokbab, cream saewo, chili saewo, and others.
Well, good thing that they had large package of three kind of Korean dishes in a separated bowl.
And they also had gyodong clam jjamppong (sold out that day -_-) and beef tangsooyook.
On the last page we could see their packages menus and also beverages.
After had ordered we got free kimchi and also yellow raddish. The kimchi was fresh, it had sweet, sour and spicy flavour. But the raddish was weird for me. For these, we could ask as many as we want.
Then I also got my oksusu cha. The tea that made of corn which was fresh and smelled so good. It was a bit bitter but I loved it. I asked the ice one. And good thing is, this was free refill. Oksusu cha is my favorite when i come to Korean restaurant i always ask for this corn tea.
After waiting around 20 minutes, the set menu came. It contained jjampong, jjajangmyeon and tangsooyook.
And while we were having the set menu, our dosirak came. So here was how our table looked that day.
Well, now I would like to share to you how the dishes there tasted.
JJAMPONG
They gave seafood jjampong here. I still confused which variant cause they had lots of it. Well, the taste of the jjampong was extraordinary. It had savory and spicy flavour with natural sweetness from the seafood. The toppings were a lot like clams and shrimp. Well and the texture of the noodle was just right, correct and perfectly cook, it wasn't hard nor soft. It was chewy too. Overall their jjampong was superb!
JJAJANGMYEON
The noodle they used in jjajangmyeon was similar with what they used for jjampong. The black bean paste tasted sweet, too sweet for me. And it also had beef and sliced potato as its' toppings. I wasn't into this menu well because i prefer savory noodle than the sweet one, but it's all about preference and taste.
TANGSOOYOOK
The chicken fried with floured skin then served with sweet sour sauce. The chicken had light savory flavour and soft. Nothing special with this menu and i prefer the pork tangsooyook that i ever tasted in another Korean restaurant.
BEEF BULGOGI
The main dish on their dosirak was beef bulgogi. Served hot, the sliced beef had soft texture with quite a lot amount. And good thing, it tasted so good, even when the sweet flavour was dominated but both of us agree that it tasted so great. And beside it also had savory flavour too, so it tasted umami.
The dosirak also had egg omelette which tasted light savory and fresh salad which had mayonaise dressing. The dressing made it tasted sweet and sour. Plus it had kimchi too, so we had double kimchi that day.
Well, overall my first time Jjampong experience was amazing. Both of us agree that it was really tasty, even superb and it beyond my expectation. And I can’t wait to have another jjampong again!
