Pawon Simbok
Pawon Simbok... it comes from Javanese which is my first language. The word "Pawon" means kitchen, while the word "Simbok" can mean Mother or Grandmother... I usually use the word Simbok to call my grandmother. However, some people call their mother "Simbok". So the meaning of the name of this restaurant is Mother's kitchen or Grandmother's kitchen... Why is it named that? Because this restaurant sells typical Jogja home cooking which is usually cooked by our mothers or grandmothers. The food provided really reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. There is typical Jogja gudeg, krecek, pindang eggs and fried chicken. We are invited to take our own food, we call it "Prasmanan".
The food at Pawon Simbok restaurant tasted quite good... Not as good as my mother and grandmother's cooking, but enough to satisfy my longing for their cooking. However, there was something that didn't suit my palate, the gudeg was too sweet. Javanese cuisine is indeed famous for being sweet, especially gudeg... However, even though I'm Javanese, I don't really like sweet foods. Apart from gudeng, I think everything else suits my taste.
I really didn't expect Pawon Simbok restaurant to be quite spacious and fit hundreds of people. The building and furniture are all made of wood, adding a strong Javanese impression. The tables and chairs are neatly arranged, it's really a comfortable restaurant.
Thank you in advance to my ASEAN Hive friends for taking the time to read my story about Pawon Simbok... Have a nice day!
