Today all my chinese friends celebrate the Chinese New Year, I am not a chinese so I do not celebrate the new year but I wish all of us to have a prosperity and wealth this year.
CNY LUNCH

Today my brother and I have decided to take my mother out to have a lunch. We have been rarely going out together regarding many issues, from health to wealth. So it was a good day today when we could come out together, had our lunch and got back before the rain started again.

We already explored some places before by browsing instagrams and tiktok. We found out an old place having a promotional set menu for 4 people at 400.000 rupiah or around 24 USD. It was pretty much a steal, so we decided to go to that place.

Of course we did not only order the set menu. Today was a special day, we wanted to celebrate with our mother. So we order a couple of extra menu to complete our lunch.

In most chinese food restaurant, you would get a free flow chinese tea. So you only need to pay based on how many people seated on the table. We had this Chrysantum tea, which looked a bit clear colorless. My brother wanted to have this tea, and I could say that this was the biggest dissapointment for me today. I disliked chrysantum tea, but whatever...

My mother loved Hakau, it was a shrimp dumpling. She always ordered it everytime we visited any chinese restaurant.

Fong Zhau stands for phoenix claw, but that is not a phoenix. It is a braised chicken feet. This was my late father favorite, we ordered it just as a remembrance of his presence.
Ok now we come to our set menu here

The first one was Yang Chao fried rice. It was a classic Chinese wok fried rice, and basically it was egg fried rice with some small chop of meat. The meat usually only two kind, either chicken with shrimp, or pork with shrimp. This one was pork with shrimp, it tasted light but great one.

This was the vegetable dish, tumis poling dengan 3 macam telur. In english it is called Stir-fried pocai with 3 eggs. If Chrysantum Tea was my biggest no today, this was the second biggest one. The presentation was a mess and the taste was below par. I am a fan of 3 eggs flavor, so I have to be harsh about this one lol. It was below my standard.

This was Hong Bak or Babi Hong. It was a hakka dish of pork belly stew. It tasted great, far from the best but still great. The only negative point for this dish was the presentation, it was not decent enough for a restaurant standard.

This was Fried Shrimp in Mayonnaise sauce. The presentation was plain however I had to admit the taste was very great. It might be one of the best shrimp mayo I have ever had.

This was our desert, Mochi in Ginger soup. I thought it would be a disaster, regarding most set menu always have something bad inside. This one turned out to be great. I did not like mochi, but I could eat it. Not too sticky and not too sweet, but all fit well.

This was overall of our order. Somehow I lost two shots from my phone, I did not know how, but recently my phone deleted some of pictures by itself.
I lost the picture of initial Mochi in Ginger soup and that Dori with salt and pepper. We ordered Grouper in Fermented Black Bean Sauce, but they said they ran out of it and replaced it with dori. We were very disappointed, because dori and grouper were two fishes with big gap or price. It is like you order TESLA CAR, and then they give you JAECOO electric car. No matter how hard they try to convice you it was better, you definitely feel you get scammer.
Luckily the dori salt and pepper tasted excellent. Same as the shrimps, the dori might be the best one I have ever had in my life.
So even with some disappointments, our lunch today was still a great one. Thank you for coming and read my post here. Happy CNY and May this year be full of prosperity and wealth for all of us here.
