Working is no doubt a compulsory part of adulting because without working how then would we be able to earn to provide for our basic needs, I know some people are born into wealth and might not need the working to earn a living, but the truth remains that beyond earning a living, working provides us a sense of purpose and fulfillment with providing solution and contributing your quota to the society.
My design
Well, I've had my own share of the good, bad, and ugly experiences working in a different setting as an employee before I became self-employed but I believe these experiences were what built me into becoming the better entrepreneur that I am today. I currently work as a creative fashion designer, meaning I design and make clothes from scratch to finish, there are lots of benefits that have made me stick to this profession for the past four years now,
Starting with being able to creatively express myself, it takes an artist to understand what it feels like to turn one's creative ideas into reality in wearable form, there is an unexplainable satisfaction/fulfillment I get from what I do, and it's the same satisfaction that keeps me motivated.
Also, Being self-employed provides me with flexibility and freedom I lacked working for others before, I know some people think entrepreneurs have all the freedom we want, but there is still that gap in discipline, I set my own working hours, choose my projects, not just anyone enforced on me, and also get to work remotely, for now, I have a secluded room in my home dedicated to my designing job, this makes it easy for me to work comfortably since I'm in my personal space, I also eat better and as a mother, I also can easily work and take good care of my children, this is one of the very important reasons that made me choose this path, my work-life is balanced.
The designer
Another advantage is that Fashion design provides me with the opportunity for continuous Learning and growth, as the fashion industry and trends are ever-evolving, which means I'm constantly being pushed to learn new things to move along with the trend so I don't get left behind, which keeps my work exciting and challenging.
Last but not least, as a designer who creates clothes from scratch, I have the opportunity to directly impact my clients' lives. Helping them feel confident about themselves, this have had to experience too many times and still can't get enough, working as a female clothing designer especially
I realized that my skill is more than just designing, but making women no matter what shape and size feel beautiful and confident.
Not forgetting the pay that comes along, I can proudly say that my current job has provided me with more pay than all the previous jobs I've ever done, and to think I work from the comfort of my home, no transport cost and stress to and from work and no control freak/annoying boss on my neck is truly amazing.
What Might Make Me Quit if Removed?
Given the passion and fulfillment I've expressed for my work, one thing I believe would make me consider quitting is if my creative freedom is taken away because this is what allows me to express myself, imagine the government putting a restriction on what I could design, it would become hard for me, as I would no longer feel a sense of purpose and the excitement that being a creative designer brings.
