Two fracture cases in my chamber ! | Random Chamber Talk | Sep 18, 2024 | Four Hours Without Electricty

A housemaid was brought by her sponsor. A few hours before visiting me, she fell on her left hand. Her wrist joint was hugely swollen and somewhat deformed. I ordered an X-ray. It showed a displaced fracture at the distal end of one of the forearm bones (Radius). I talked with another GP doctor who is putting POP (Plaster Of Paris) in fracture cases. He suggested consulting an orthopedic doctor. A mere placing of a POP may not correct the displaced bone fragment. I informed the sponsor and gave one referral letter to go to an orthopedic surgeon.

Another 5-Year-Old boy came. He got an injury to his left ring finger the day before. His finger got stuck while closing a door. There was mild bleeding also. The mother took him to a government clinic and waited for 3 hours. Then came to me. I ordered an X-ray for him too. Unfortunately, his ring finger's last bone crashed! We put a finger splint. I also gave him a referral letter to go to an orthopedic doctor.

On Tuesday, in the morning shift, I consulted 24 patients. The evening shift duty was unexpectedly closed due to an unprecedented electricity failure! At around 5:50 pm, the electricity went off. We waited and waited and waited. It's a rare event here. Very occasionally we get electricity failure here. But, they never stayed off for 4 hours! A few registered patients waited for one hour and left. I went home and brought my wife and kid outside. Because, without electricity and an air conditioner, it's quite difficult to stay inside the home. We went for a short car ride too! All business centers and shops were closed. All the clinic staff gathered together, sang, and enjoyed some expected free time. All the workers of various shops sat outside waiting for the electricity! All work shut down!!
