Two sisters recently visited me in my chamber. Both of them were above 30. The elder one was the first patient.
"Doctor, I want to do 'all the test'!" The elder sister said.
"Why? What's the issue"? I asked her (many patients ask for such "all body tests" first and later do nothing, due to cost).
"See! My eyes are yellow. My face doesn't look good (indeed, it didn't due to heavy makeup). I feel tired all the time, " she replied.
"It would cost a lot to do all the available tests". I replied.
"How much?"
"It would be around 100 OMR"!
"That's pretty high"! The attending sister told, who also registered for consultation. "No, need all the tests"-she told her elder sister.
But, the elder sister was pretty determined to all the tests. She wasn't concerned about the money. So, I advised almost all the blood and urine investigations available in our clinic. The total cost was 104 OMR (~270 USD)! To my surprise, she agreed to do all the tests!
After finishing with the elder one, when I asked the younger one about her problem, she left my chamber with her sister. She didn't even tell me why she came! I guess, she also wanted to do "all the tests" but due to the high price, she decided not to do it!
The reports of the elder sister did show some deficiencies. She was deficient in hemoglobin, iron, calcium, and vitamin D. She was having a urine infection as well.
