Here is my entry for BeerSaturday 438 hosted by @detlev with a collaboration between Quebec breweries Sir John and Herman, the Altstadt, a German-inspired Altbier. This is only the second time I've tasted this type of beer, see BeerSaturday 414 - Nid Douillet (Espace Public). It's interesting to discover a type of beer I'm not used to.
Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 438 avec une collaboration entre les brasseries québécoises Sir John et Herman, la Altstadt, un Altbier d'inspiration allemande. C'est seulement la deuxième fois que je goute ce type de bière, voir BeerSaturday 414 - Nid Douillet (Espace Public). C'est intéressant de découvrir un type de bière dont je n'ai pas l'habitude.
Here is the map of Quebec where I can show you precisely the location of the brewery, or rather this time, two breweries. Both breweries are located west of Montreal in the Laurentians. Sir John is in Lachute and Herman in Prévost. They are quite close to each other.
Voici la carte du Québec ou je peux vous montrer précisément la localisation de la brasserie, enfin cette fois, deux brasseries. Les deux brasseries se trouvent à l'ouest de Montréal dans les Laurentides. Sir John se trouve à Lachute et Herman à Prévost. Elles sont assez proches l'un de l'autre.

Since this is a collaboration between two breweries I've already talked about in previous #BeerSaturday posts, I'll keep it brief. Sir John was launched in 2019 by Joël Dupras and Maxime Hébert in Lachute, specializing in NEIPAs. More information in BeerSaturday 373. As for Herman, it was created in 2022 by Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin and Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin, focusing on session beers that are light and accessible, see BeerSaturday 431.
Comme il s'agit d'une collaboration entre deux brasseries dont j'ai déjà parlé lors de #BeerSaturday précédents, je vais faire rapide. Sir John a été lancé en 2019 par Joêl Dupras et Maxime Hébert à Lachute en sespécialisant dans les NEIPA. Plus d'informations sur BeerSaturday 373. Pour Herman, c'est en 2022 qu'elle fut créée par Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin et Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin en se concentrant sur les bières de soif, légères et accessibles, voir BeerSaturday 431.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
The Altstadt (Old Town) is an Altbier (Old Beer) with 4.8% alcohol hopped with Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Saphir, classic German hops, especially the Mittelfrüh. It's a hybrid type fermented with ale yeast then cold-conditioned (lagering).
In the glass we have an amber color, almost dark, topped with a beautiful creamy foam. On the palate, there's a nice balance between toasted bread and caramel notes. It's refreshing but with personality. Good beer last night before going to the restaurant.
La Altstadt (Vieille Ville) est un Altbier (Vieille Bière) avec 4.8% d'alcool houblonnée avec du Hallertau Mittelfruh et Saphir, des houblons allemands classiques surtout le Mittelfruh. C'est un type hybride fermentée avec des levures ale puis garder à froid (lagering).
Dans le verre on a une couleur ambrée presque foncée surmontée d'une belle mousse onctueuse. En bouche, on a un équilibre sympathiques entre les notes de pains grilles et de caramel. Elle est rafraichissante mais avec de la personnalité. Bonne bière hier soir avant d'aller au restaurant.
Design
The design of this collaboration between Sir John and Herman breweries is rather classic, but it emphasizes the traditional nature of this beer style. Simple and effective. / FR : Le design de cette collaboration des brasseries Sir John et Herman est plutôt classique mais cela souligne le côté classique de ce type de bière. Simple et efficace.
