Hot dogs from the shopping mall [Esp-Eng]

Por alguna extraña razón, los perros calientes que venden en los centros comerciales son totalmente diferentes en muchos aspectos. Por lo general, aquí en Venezuela uno está acostumbrado a que los puestos de perros calientes sean callejeros, carritos adaptados o incluso un negocio independiente puesto en el garaje de una casa.

​Estos perros calientes tienen algo particular y es que tienen de todo: vienen con ensalada de repollo y zanahoria, cebolla en cuadritos, papas fritas y salsas, muchas salsas, además claro, de todo lo que trae un perro caliente normalmente: salchicha, salsa de tomate y mostaza. El caso es que, como estamos acostumbrados a este tipo de perro caliente, para nosotros esa es la definición de un perro caliente, por lo que sí creemos que en todas partes están hechos de la misma manera.

For some strange reason, the hot dogs sold in shopping malls are completely different in many ways. Here in Venezuela, we are used to hot dog stands being street vendors, adapted carts, or even independent businesses set up in the garage of a house.

These hot dogs have something special about them, and that is that they have everything: they come with coleslaw and carrot salad, diced onions, French fries, and sauces, lots of sauces, in addition to everything that a hot dog normally comes with: sausage, ketchup, and mustard. The fact is that, as we are used to this type of hot dog, for us that is the definition of a hot dog, so we do believe that they are made the same way everywhere.

​Hasta hace unos días que visitamos el centro comercial y decidimos comernos un combo de perros calientes que estaba a muy buen precio, o mejor dicho, hot dogs, porque en el combo se llamaban así. Y sí, definitivamente son diferentes a los perros calientes de los que le hablé. Este era un perro caliente sencillo que venía con salchicha, salsa de tomate y mostaza, aunque también traía algunas papas fritas, pero nada más.

​Cuando vimos estos perros calientes, que de paso eran dos para cada uno y eran gigantes, me sorprendió mucho darme cuenta de que no era lo que esperaba. Debo admitir que me desanimé un montón, porque lo primero que pensé es que había gastado dinero en algo que no me iba a gustar, y para mí no hay nada peor que gastar dinero en algo que no sabe bien. Pero al final no había nada que hacer, y pues decidí verlo como un tipo de perro caliente diferente y no compararlo con el que normalmente como.

Until a few days ago, when we visited the shopping mall and decided to eat a hot dog combo that was very reasonably priced, or rather, hot dogs, because that's what they were called in the combo. And yes, they are definitely different from the hot dogs I told you about. This was a simple hot dog that came with sausage, ketchup, and mustard, although it also came with some French fries, but nothing else.

When we saw these hot dogs, which, by the way, were two for each of us and were huge, I was very surprised to realize that they were not what I expected. I must admit that I was very disappointed, because the first thing I thought was that I had spent money on something I wasn't going to like, and for me there's nothing worse than spending money on something that doesn't taste good. But in the end there was nothing I could do, so I decided to see it as a different kind of hot dog and not compare it to the ones I normally eat.

​Debo decir que me sorprendió positivamente el sabor de estos perros. Creo que la combinación de estas dos salsas solamente hacen que resalte mucho más el sabor de la salchicha. El pan estaba perfecto para mi gusto: suave, pero no demasiado como para que se doblara al agarrarlo, lo que permitía que lo pudiéramos comer con tranquilidad. Estos perros calientes, aunque muy diferentes a los que estamos acostumbrados a comer, estaban riquísimos.

​Me sorprendió muchísimo porque la verdad uno piensa que mientras más cosas tenga un perro caliente, mejor va a saber. Y, aunque en los perros calientes venezolanos esto es muy característico y la verdad es que sí saben deliciosos, eso no significa que unos perros calientes sencillos, con lo necesario y lo justo, no vayan a saber bien. De hecho, siento que estaban demasiado ricos para lo sencillos que se veían a la vista.

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of these hot dogs. I think the combination of these two sauces really brings out the flavor of the sausage. The bun was perfect for my taste: soft, but not so soft that it bent when you picked it up, which meant we could eat it comfortably. These hot dogs, although very different from what we are used to eating, were delicious.

I was very surprised because, honestly, you think that the more things a hot dog has, the better it will taste. And, although this is very characteristic of Venezuelan hot dogs, and they do taste delicious, that doesn't mean that simple hot dogs, with just the right amount of toppings, won't taste good. In fact, I feel like they were too delicious for how simple they looked.

​A veces, un plato sencillo, incluso uno "callejero", con los ingredientes correctos puede convertirse en un plato súper rico y disfrutable. Eso nos pasó con estos perritos calientes que compramos en un centro comercial. Obviamente, sí es algo que volveríamos a comer en algún momento dado, porque en ocasiones uno quiere probar algo que no tenga tantas salsas y que no se desborde al comerlo. Y en este caso, estos hot dogs eran así.

Sometimes, a simple dish, even a "street food" dish, with the right ingredients can become a super tasty and enjoyable meal. That's what happened to us with these hot dogs we bought at a shopping mall. Obviously, it's something we would eat again at some point, because sometimes you want to try something that doesn't have so many sauces and doesn't spill everywhere when you eat it. And in this case, these hot dogs were just that.
