Most times is a female animal being. This is the Baphomet usually shown as a personification of the devil. But I wouldn't think is a woman. Other interpretations like Lucifer is usually shown as a male angel.

              Most paintings referencing him, they put it as a male character.
              But again, you are giving a gender to an abstract thing like a spirit or feeling. It shouldn't be taken literally. Is like saying if the color green is male or female....
