Double edged-sword of data privacy

in Hive Learners7 months ago

Greetings everyone!

Until last two years, I used to think that our data on the internet were really private and no one was spying on them. That's all I've knew, even when the government used to demand some linking of accounts with personal details, and also on social media, where they always say our messages were encrypted and no one had a clue about them. But I came to find out that our data, although not almost all of them, are very exposed and can get into the hands of certain people, such as the government if they want to have access to them.

A clear example is the social media thing; most of them are very loose when it comes to privacy, even when they claim to be very intact.

Have you ever searched for an item you want to buy online(not on social media) and opened social media apps and being greeted by those things you searched for? I'm sure you've seen such things before.

Yeah, that's exactly how it is. That's why even when you're using some foul words in your closet on social media, it's not actually safe. The truth is that we are being watched!

Should my data be private?

As far as I know, it's never a bad thing for the government of a country to have data access of their citizens; it'll help them to govern well and track crimes with ease if well used.

I don't think I should be bothered by the government having my details as long as they won't use my innocence to harm me. How do I mean? From time to time, we see the government parading people from one case to another because they saw a huge amount of money in their accounts. I know they do these to curb theft and scams in the country, but what if someone actually owned the money by himself? Wait, you're not getting it.

There was a time when my boss and I went to the bank to get money his brother from Germany sent him for his building project he's building in Nigeria. Can you believe that the cashier was all out acting funny and demanding tips or he reports him. Oh yeah, they think it's money he got from scamming a German citizen.
He got angry and wanted to cause a scene before the cashier shamefully released the money.
This is exactly what's happening in the country. These people are not to be trusted to a good extent because they could make anything just to have a tip from your livelihood.

Apart from the protection of citizens by having access to these data in case troubles arise, which is supposed to be a normal thing, there's absolutely no need for the government to have a clue on personal data.

What do I mean by protection by the government? Let's say a crime case arose and one person who didn't do such was accused, and the only means to get to the root is to check the life happenings of the person, such as bank transactions and phone calls. The government can easily do that to clear the air and prove justice.

Is there a way to make data private in our current world?

A good part of the financial world is already totally private, which is the cryptocurrency world. If the world in general follows this pattern, then it's very sure to be totally private.

But is that really going to be good for life in general? I doubt!

Impressed by the algorithms of social media, they know everything about our likes and desires. Now, imagine what the government knows about us!

Hahahahah!🤣
Social media just know too much about us even down to our chat.
And most of them claim they're 100% privacy thing. Lol

The way social media operate and the algorithm workz we can agree to say that our data can actually be private to an extent

Yeah, you're very correct.

It's funny how many people don't know the amount of their data is in the hands of the government. Nigeria's own isn't even that bad but you see America? Fear them. Their government even know what their citizens had for dinner the previous night 😂

Hahahaha! That's crazy.
Although the thing is helping them live cool because things (some funny bad things) don't happen there the way they do in nigeria

To every advantage, there is always a disadvantage. It is not bad for our government to have our data, but where we have a problem is the data meant to be kept private gets into the wrong hands.

That's the issue.
And most times, the people in charge trade these data for money.

It's well.

Exactly. We pray not to be victims.

Yeah👍👍

I doubt that data privacy can be effective in Nigeria. Like you said the pros and cons make it a two edged sword that can cut apart

Funny enough, what you think is private is already naked before another person on the other side of your device.
What we should rather do is to do the right thing.

In this our world and present age, crime and other vices will increase.
