Holiday Shenanigans

Year-end holidays, or Christmas holidays, as we call them, bring together times. Family travels from afar. Mostly my younger son, who lives six hours away by car, but he flies down rather as the roads are extremely busy. Not only quicker by air, but much safer.
A huge Burger stack shown above, which my son and the girlfriend said was very good, while Mom chose a crispy thin-based Pizza.

Food, of course, plays a significant role in all the festivities, and discovering the excellent eateries near my new home led to some delicious meals and less time in the kitchen, as you saw above.
I could not escape my share of providing for our bring-and-share Christmas lunch, though - Mini Haddock Quiches, tiny Apple, Herb & Pork Sausage Rolls, plus the same dessert I've been making for the past few years, a special request from the family - Berry Pavlovas and Granadilla Yogurt Tart.

Christmas day was very special with much laughter, especially from my sister-in-law's 91-year-old Mom, who was in top form! It was a great pick-me-up, because I was still feeling the effects of a lingering bronchitis.
This is some of the spread prepared by the ladies.

About that bronchitis, I'm now on a pulmonary rehab program and am sticking to it. I need to get 100% well again, as there's still much to do in my new home.

A couple more pictures from my old house were hung just before Christmas.

Both these paintings are the artwork of Peter Wink, my friend @artywink's hubby.

These photos came from my Ouma's photo album. No one knows who these family members are; my uncle, who framed them, was cruelly taken from us, and was the only one who could have answered that question!
The new year has started, and with it the promise of new things, and I cannot wait to embrace it!

I have a couple of boxes to open up still, and see if there are any hidden treasures that I can unearth; of course, stuff that would only be a treasure to me.

Oh my days that burger, slobbering over the keyboard is not good for productivity!!

Loving the frames you use for the vintage photos, they go hand in hand Lovely display

That burger was enormous, and excellent was my son and girlfriend's verdict!

My goodness you know how to eat breakfast over there! It all looks so good.

It sounds like you are settling in beautifully. I am so happy for you. It was a very bigly bold move to have made!

There is a homeopathic remedy that has been shown to benefit lung pathologies as a result of bronchitis. Heres's as link to a blog post about bronchitis with what you could try should it happen again. Because you have recovered from bronchitis and suffer now from the lingering effects, those might be ameliorated by Kali carbonicum 200c, one dose every other day.

It really helps me learn to offer this type of advice. I hope you don't mind.

Thank you dear @owasco, I so appreciate your advice. I am doing all the natural stuff now, steaming, ginger tea, nasal irrigation and of course the exercises, etc etc! I will check out the link💜

Oh my! That hamburger made me crave one right away! And it's 8 AM in the morning!! Lol

That burger was enormous! My son and his girlfriend managed to eat it all in one sitting as it was very good!

Happy new year Lizelle, appears you have had a wonderful time, excellent to hear you are overcoming the bronchitis.

Everything of the best to you and your family for 2026.

Thank you Joan, I spent hardly any time in the kitchen but am finally feeling like the nasty bugs have departed!
The very best 2026 for you and your family as well, what an awful time you all went through last year! Going to take time but you'll get through the loss. Take care of yourself too❤️

Had a wonderful day out on Christmas gave the chefs total time out of the kitchen for a change. Still need to visit my Doc for check-up in a week or two, try shake most things off, does not always work.

Enjoy your new home in good health.

I hope you took some pics although you may not have wanted to be bothered with photo shoots! Nice change from spending hours in the kitchen!
Take care of your health Joan, trying to shake things off doesn't always work❤️🙏

All those delicious foods from the holiday season make me gain weight. Cannot help but eat. Irresistible😁.
Happy birthday Lizzie. Hope you fully recovered soon. ♥️

Thank you dear Asia, I could not eat all that food! I took takeaway boxes wherever we ate, the helpings are always way too big. And I'm finally feeling like the nasty bugs are gone!
PS not my birthday yet😉💜

Sorry Lizzie, it's a happy new year 😁. I don't know how it became happy birthday😆. I think my phone writing on its own😬.

Happy 2026, Lizelle. The spectacular dishes you tasted this Christmas truly fall into the category of “culinary mischief.” I hope your health continues to improve and that you find more treasures in your home, because the memories they hold are indeed great treasures. Best regards.

Thank you @damarysvibra, culinary mischief indeed😉
I'm finally beginning to see the end of this awful coughing, so thankful, but will continue the program as I'm so excited with getting my house set up properly. It's such fun discovering stuff I forgot about 💜

Happy New Year @lizelle!! 🎇
I wish you a complete recovery, you need strength for the new home and of course for some flying activities with a parasol 😉

Ah thank you dear @mipiano, I think a flying expedition across the ocean is just what I need! Had a much better day today, feels like the nasties are finally departing. I need the energy to do more stuff to my new home, am so excited about it all
