Perks of being a Silver

in Silver Bloggers4 days ago

Gone are those crazy days of having to steal just five more minutes under the fluffy duvet before jumping out of the warm, cosy bed. Into the shower, grab a coffee, and a quick bite before heading out to work and dealing with those frustrating traffic snarls.

Easing slowly into the day is the one luxury I feel we, as silvery folk, have earned. Yes, there are still times when we need to get moving earlier, but I do my best to make appointments so I only have to leave home after the traffic has calmed down.

I'm a night owl, and hubby often used to make our morning coffee. Waking up to my man so lovingly bringing me coffee in bed was such a treat, not just the coffee. It's that gentle touch nudging me awake when we have a busy day ahead, that special look meant just for me. Those are all the things I miss so much!

I have my coffee a little later now, or set my alarm when I need to get up earlier, and although I miss that togetherness, I still enjoy my early morning coffee in bed. I now chat more on my phone, enjoy hearing the sound of the birds in the tree outside my bedroom window, and look out at the garden. Those are priceless luxuries, but the missing never goes away!

All the crazy years of busyness have taught me how to slap a tasty meal together in no time.
While I'm not a breakfast person, there are times when I have to make something for friends or family staying over. An omelette is probably one of the quickest and easiest light breakfasts one can throw together, and something I do enjoy.
A regular guest, who, well into her fifties, is studying law, and stayed here while writing her exams. We've become good friends, so it's always a pleasure to spoil her a little in between her studies. A simple two-egg omelette with tomato, blobs of cottage cheese with spring onions, grated cheese, and fresh parsley, straight from my herb garden outside the kitchen, served with sourdough toast, was a satisfying light and leisurely meal.

I had a lazy weekend binge-watching TV series, she said she doesn't know why she's studying at her age, and envied me having time to do whatever I pleased.
She admitted that studying has become an addiction in her family. She already has a degree.
I think it's amazing that people do not let the silver years stop them from doing the things usually reserved for the younger generation.

I think we can all learn a lesson from that - never too old to tackle what seems impossible!

An omelette is a fine breakfast. I must say, you got the nail on the head with the annoyance of the morningv small into work. I hate it!

Yes, I miss my work buddies, but not the frustrating ride into the city; dodging taxis and the like - nooooo thank you!
Glad you enjoyed the virtual omelette, have a great Wednesday, Mr. Boom!

You're right! There is no upper age limit on learning. I have no desire to chase a degree in anything, but I do love learning in general and won't stop until I am unable. The natural wake up is far superior to an alarm, but blast it all...sometimes it is still necessary lol

Hi @tamaralovelace, I also have a thirst for knowledge for things that interest me. I believe we never stop learning, which makes life so much more exciting!
Yes, that insistent alarm is no friend of mine!
Thank you for the visit. Have a great day.

You are welcome to tell her that I got a BTh degree at age 60 milady. But I have to admit that it took too much of my time, especially with our charity work, and I have no intention to study for anything else. !LOL

I needed to buy a new pan to stir fry a large meal
I decided to go for a wok.

Gosh, that's a wonderful achievement my friend, and I don't know how you managed with all the charity work which must keep you busy at odd times as well! I don't think I could get my brain into studying and exam mode again🫣

Sacrifice milady, as I have always challenged myself, and in all honesty, I wanted to drop out a few times.
We have good news on the charity front, about our latest partnership project, and I will do a post about it as soon as Marian places the news on our Papillon website.
I am sure that if you wanted to, then you would really do so, but you have enough worries on your plate to still bother with exams and stuff.

Omelettes are great, not only are they quick to make, but you can make so many things into them!

Coffee in bed, good for you Lizzie, I love doing that too!

I'm taking things slower myself. Sometimes when I go for a walk I do it slower than usual, I no longer see the point of walking against the clock, I do it to enjoy myself. I also get up quite late, I don't accept any early morning commitments. The time for rushing is over. Thanks for sharing dear @lizelle . A big hug from Maracay.

The favorite breakfast of my son omellette. This is heartwarming and inspiring reflection on savoring life’s simple pleasures and embracing new opportunities at any age. Always cherished all the memories.love lots
