Hi Food Lover Friends!
Welcome to my blog today. I’m going to share with you a mouth-watering, tangy, sweet, and spicy Hog Plum Pickle. Almost all of us love pickles, and when the taste lingers deliciously in the mouth, there’s nothing better! This season hog plums are available in plenty at the market, and I personally enjoy eating them a lot. Whenever hog plum season comes, I always make this pickle and store it. It’s very easy to prepare, takes little time, and doesn’t need the hassle of sun-drying.
For the pickle spice mix, we’ll need:
Coriander
Cumin
Dry red chili
Panch phoron (five-spice mix)
Preparation of the spice mix:
First, dry roast all the spices in a pan for a few minutes. Then grind them in a blender or on a traditional stone grinder. That’s it! The spice mix is ready. This masala can also be used in other types of pickles.
Ingredients for making Hog Plum Pickle:
Mustard oil
Garlic cloves
Turmeric powder
Chili powder
Dry red chilies
Sugar
Hog plums
Vinegar
A little salt
Preparation method:
- Heat one cup of mustard oil in a pan.
- Add some garlic cloves, panch phoron, and dry red chilies, and stir for a while.
- Add the sliced hog plums and fry them for a few minutes.
- Mix in a little turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt, then stir well.
- Add one cup of sugar, stir, and cover the pan. No need to add any water.
- Keep stirring occasionally. Cook for about 40 minutes.
- After 40 minutes, turn off the heat and add a little of the prepared spice mix.
Your delicious tangy, sweet, and spicy hog plum pickle is ready to enjoy!
If you want to store it for longer, be sure to add vinegar. Vinegar is used only for preservation and helps the pickle last much longer.
