This Friday started well. I have had a most entertaining day, on the one hand, they were notified by a message that there would possibly be a suspension of the electrical service. That doesn't sound like a good thing, but giving notice (rather than making an unscheduled outage) gives you the opportunity to prepare and get the job out early.
Well, that's done, so now I can get down to registering for today's post. Actually, since my #life has been relatively calm, and I've been working from home, I don't have much more to say. I prefer to comment on the Anniversary of #History that I chose to comment on today. It is a celebration of #food, although in this case it is a wheat-based preparation that can be sweet or savory, so I can't simply consider it a sweet.
On the other hand, it is a relatively recent date of celebration (it was established in 2003), and it is not yet officially an International Day. Today is 'Pretzel Day' in the United States.

Este viernes comenzó bien. He tenido un día de lo más entretenido, por una parte, avisaron por un mensaje que posiblemente habría una suspensión del servicio eléctrico. Eso no suena como algo bueno, pero que avisen (en lugar de hacer un corte no programado) da la oportunidad de prepararse y sacar temprano el trabajo.
Bien, eso ya está hecho, así que ahora puedo dedicarme a hacer el registro para el post de hoy. En realidad, como mi #vida ha estado en relativa calma y he estado trabajando desde casa, no tengo mucho más que contar. Prefiero pasar a comentar sobre la Efemérides de la #Historia que escogí para comentar hoy. Se trata de una celebración de #comida, aunque en este caso se trata de una preparación a base de trigo que puede ser dulce o salada, así que no puedo simplemente considerarla un dulce.
Por otra parte, es una fecha de celebración relativamente reciente (se instaura en 2003), y aún no es un Día Internacional oficialmente. Hoy es el ‘Día del Pretzel’, en Estados Unidos.

I have a preference for celebrations that are international in scope, or are becoming international, but I have to admit that I'm not sure that's the case for today's holiday. The pretzels are an inheritance from migrants with German roots who immigrated to the United States at the beginning of the 18th century.
These European migrants had this bread as part of their traditions long before. It is thought that the origin of pretzels dates back to the 7th century, when a monk in Italy set out to innovate and created a reward for children who learned prayers. He named these #snacks inspired by the word “pretiola” , which could be translated as ‘small rewards’.
In reality, I am not entirely clear about this origin, I lack better references. In part, it seems to me that this story of the creation of the pretzel recipe borders on legends a bit, but that is something I find acceptable. There are many events that mark turning points in history that are then embellished with anecdotes. And one reaches the point of not being able to separate what is a pure and dry historical fact from the colorful make-up of the imagination.

I suppose an example of what I say in the previous paragraph would be the case of the apple and the initial development of Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation. In that sense, I have to accept the narrative that I have at hand, to indicate that the origin of today's snack is religious in origin, European in its birth. And its peculiar braided shape has both a utilitarian meaning (to display the pieces of bread, by hanging them on wooden sticks), and a symbolic meaning (representing arms crossed on the chest, to chant prayers).
I'd like to tell you a lot more about what I've learned today about pretzels, but I usually make my log posts about a page long, and I'm already running out of space. Supongo que un ejemplo de lo que digo en el párrafo anterior sería el caso de la manzana y el desarrollo inicial de la Ley de Gravitación Universal de Newton. En ese sentido, me toca aceptar la narrativa que tengo a mano, para indicar que el origen del snack de hoy es de raíz religiosa, europeo en su nacimiento. Y su peculiar forma trenzada tiene tanto un sentido utilitario (para exhibir las piezas de pan, al colgarlas en varas de madera), como un sentido simbólico (representando brazos cruzados sobre el pecho, para entonar las plegarias).
Me gustaría contar mucho más que he aprendido hoy sobre los pretzeles, pero suelo hacer que los posts de registro tengan una extensión aproximada de una cuartilla y ya se me acaba el espacio.
