Greetings!
Family tradition is one thing that I have always cherished so much and this is because of the kind of love these traditions used to promote among the family members.
In my own family for instance, there's a series of family traditions that has really made us a united family. Most of these traditions had been in existence even before we were brought to this world and it's been handed over to us the younger ones and I can say, we are really enjoying those traditions that have been handed over to us.
One of those traditions that was handed over to us is that of eating together as a family. I could remember while growing up, whenever we wanted to eat, my siblings and I would eat together inside a plate and this had really been part and parcel of all of us.
So, whenever it's food time, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, we all as a member of one indivisible family would always gather together, sit on a mat and dine and wine together.
When we were small, our parents used to serve us on a plate and it's after we finished our food that meat or fish would be shared to everyone accordingly so that there won't be a fight while eating and to prevent unnecessary complaints that this one took my fish and the likes. So, we enjoyed this kind of life so much.
Aside from this, whenever it's Christmas or new year time, the same things that's applicable to the individual nuclear family that were brought up by the same extended grandparents would also be used in taking care of everyone present at the celebration. All the grandchildren and even our parents would eat from the same plates respectively with joy and happiness.
In fact, I grew up in a nuclear and extended family where no one has his or her own plates, cup or spoon to him or herself. All plates and cups with spoons are for the whole house and then, there's nothing like diseases or any kind of ailment being contracted by the member of the family.
But, when I got married to my wife, the reverse was the case as she would always named a plate, cup or spoon to herself and to me as well, but as for me, this was not the way i was brought and for me to balance things up without causing chaos in the family, I accepted her own ideology of family life but even in the process, i was gradually introducing my own family value to her.
Though, it took most of my time to get to my destination, but in the end, I was able to win her over to my side and as I'm talking right now, we both share the same plate, spoon and cup and no one eats alone any longer. In fact, if I'm not yet around, she would not eat and this is how we have been operating for over 4yrs now.
We only have a baby now, but our plan is to model our children doing the same when we have more of them with us.
So, sharing the same plate, spoon or cup as a family is of great importance which is more of promoting love and unity with this kind of special bond among all the members of the family.
I can tell you for real that the love that exists in my family now cannot be quantified and whenever my siblings and I have a family meeting without our spouses being there, we still share the same plate while eating. So, the bond is already there and it cannot be broken.
In conclusion, when a family eats together, it helps to promote unity, love and progress and at the same time, brings joy and happiness into the fold.
