Village is a place where a lot of traditional and orthodox things can be seen. In the age of technology , the rural people are still habitual of carrying out the old practices. They love doing the manual work, and they are happy to be self dependent. Iam saying because of this.
This is a common sight nowadays at my village. Every home have this set up carried out in their courtyard. A mud made big furnace we call them Chula (stove) and a big couldron, and burning Woodstock to lit the furnace. This is an age old method of making parboiled rice. Once the paddys were harvested and separated. The people used to soak the paddys into water and then steamed them using this method. Not many people are aware of this technique. As mostly people belive that Rice are comes out of the paddys through machine.
The steaming process of paddy improves the quality and reduces the glycemic index of parboiled rice. Studies suggest that parboiled rice has a lower impact on blood sugar levels than white rice and brown rice.

This age old method of Steamed paddys are for half boiled rices. Once the paddys were steamed through this method they were then put into the machine to make rice. The rice that comes out little thick and side. People like to eat them more than the readymade polish rice available in market. I missed out on sharing the machine process, as there fewer machine in my village that operates in different intervals at different home. While they never ran out of the burning substance as they venture out to the jungle and collect all the dry leaves to burn the furnace. It is a typical old style process.

These half boiled rice are quicker in digestion. People find them cheaper process then buying rice from the market. Though it takes a lot of manual effort. Continously sitting in front of the furnace and keeping a regular check on the temperature and avoidingbthe burning of the paddy. Here the to accomodste more quantity, the person used a iron sheet to covering the cauldron so that more paddy get steamed at once.
At the time, when people have the ease to buy differrnt quality of rices at the shopping malls, these poor people are fond of their own made rice.
