Temple fest & market
Today I report on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the opening day of the 3-week temple festival and market in Ban Tai on Koh Phangan. I was there on the very first day, around mid-afternoon, which might not have been all that special as the local events weren't due to start until the evening. All the performances and concerts are scheduled for the evening hours, but I was already somewhere else in the evening. 😅
So I treated myself to a relaxed market Saturday at the temple complex. I strolled through the small paths and alleyways and looked at all the stores and stalls.
However, I didn't really find what I was looking for. Which is very unfortunate, because the market prices are unbeatably cheap! You can get almost everything here. However, as I don't eat meat, fish, insects or other seafood, there was little to nothing on offer for me.
It is a very traditional Thai market, which is a wonderful experience and I can recommend it to anyone. The locals are super nice and friendly.
I only photographed the temple complex itself from the outside, as I was wearing shorts and didn't see anyone wearing shorts in the complex, so I wanted to remain respectful, as you are not usually allowed to enter temples wearing shorts or off the shoulder. Perhaps they make an exception, but I respect Buddhism, which is why I didn't dare. Here are a few impressions of the street market at the temple.

On my way to walk down from the 400 years old tree (which you can see in an older post of mine) to the temple fest and street market.
It's still too early, all events and music stuff will be in the evening and night.
Some first impressions of the market and area around the temple.
Everywhere some small shops. Mostly offering same things. Anyway a nice event and idea.
What I recognized is, here in Thailand they are using a loooot plastic. In Europe or in the DACH region we try so badly not to use it and here.... A little plastic world.
Clothes you can find here a lot. Also some nice anime style ones. I didn't bought anything because I didn't needed new stuff.
So round about 38 Baht are 1 €. Hope ot help you to imagine and calculate some prices you see on the photos.
This is the entrance of the temple. I wasn't sure if it was allowed to go in with short pants. This is why I haven't done more temple photos this time.
Anyway I walked around and took a look at the local food and offerings. Wow, couldn't imagine to eat 98 % of this. Its was nearly impossible to find some vegetarian or vegan healthy food... Ok... It was impossible. Only sweets for vegetarians here.
Here you can see some vegetarian options and opportunities. I didn't found any fruit shake shop. So no fresh juices, shakes or smoothies available.
On the other side you will find a lot for meat, fish and insects eaters here. Maybe for you guys it's a foodie heaven paradise, I don't know.
Question to all meat eaters... What would you choose out?
A. Pork 🐷
B. Insects and worms, hmmm, delicious 🐛
C. Cheese sausage 🧀🌭
D. Other meat like chicken, cow whatever 🐔🐮
I have chosen some Pommes-frites as I call them 😇 wirh too much mayonnaise. Couldn't eat it all.
I took a last walk around and finally after 1,5 hours I left and went back home because I was tired as f****!!!! I finally had to rest too, to regenerate my body from a loooooong walk on this day. At all I was walking 7 hours on that day. Phew Jesus cries. 😅

Tempel Fest & Markt
