Is This Evolution?

I remember watching a documentary a few years back, about the level of disconnect that young people have with nature. How they view nature as somewhere dirty, with some of the young people even saying they would be scared to go into nature. The teenagers that were interviewed where all living in London. They felt much more comfortable in the city, than rambling in the countryside, where they would feel out of place. I remember thinking how sad, that they viewed our natural world in such a way.

It's been so important to me, that my girls grow up surrounded by nature, that they feel at home, surrounded by trees, nestled in by the mountains that surround the Valley we live in. Such a huge level of disconnect some have, it worries me really. So many, living out of balance with the world, with the natural world. I would be far more scared to walk alone in a city, than I ever would be in nature. I'm lucky there are no dangerous animals where I am (besides the humans, that is).

Just the other day, I was watching something and two of the people where discussing how a leek grows, whether or not part of it is in the ground or the whole of it is. I forget sometimes, that people are so far removed from the food they eat. It's like that clip where some people think chocolate milk comes from chocolate cows. People are just used to putting food in their mouths without even knowing where it comes from.

Yes, as you can guess I am one of those people that you will see in a shop reading the ingredients on a packet, if there are any E numbers, it's a no, also if there are too many ingredients, it's a no from me. I want to eat food, food that is as natural as possible. I have a bit of a soft spot for crisps though, luckily Spain is pretty good at making them with just chips, oil and seasoning. Yeah they are fried, but you know there are worst things out there, that I could be eating.

But what upsets me, is that there is so much shit being sold as food. Don't even get me started on the fact that we use chemicals to put on our fruit and veg to stop creatures eating it, but then we do. Those creatures are so much more intelligent than us, no? They know not to eat this poison. We poison our food, so we can eat it and we are told this is progress.

Yeah, us humans, we sure seem to be evolving, don't we? ( That's me being sarcastic, just in case you were wondering.) Of course there is method in this madness, a goal in mind, to make us more dependant on the system. On their system. But really, the only system we need, in my opinion, is the ecosystem.
( plus a few sound systems.)

Wouldn't throw away a few good sound systems for sure, but otherwise I completely agree. I was raised in the city. I don't think i feel very at home in nature, but i do see it as a fault, and would like to change that. There is convenience to our evolution, which I'm glad for, but there is also a systematic killing of the roots we've come from, and that should be worrying.

Those creatures are so much more intelligent than us, no? They know not to eat this poison. We poison our food, so we can eat it and we are told this is progress.

Alienation. We are not like other animals. Brilliantly put, my dear. I hope you and your girls are well. ❤️

Well, nature gives me peace. I guess,it depends on the person's preference but mostly teenagers here in our country always love to connect with nature.

Nature heals me and make me appreciate things that I have today.Glad that you sorround your girls with nature,Im sure they will truly live a life were there hearts is close to nature.

I understand the appeal of the city, I’ve always felt better in a blend of both that is not the suburbs but that’s hard to find. But the city makes me feel connected to the larger collective, which I admit is not how most people think of the city, but that’s probably because they are doing it wrong 😆

Many people in the city live work and play in different areas and that’s a nightmare. Also it makes sense to stay in the city or moving around a lot when you are looking for your people and learning about the world. I think the country naturally looks more appealing by 30 or 40 and if it doesn’t, you probably have a lot of addictions 😆

The greatest period of my life was two months in Dali China which had all the artists and travelers and local culture I could ask for to keep things fresh and beautiful nature everywhere, but the work and visa situation there was horrible so I didn’t try to live there.

I imagine id like a small village close to a big city in europe but im notnsure i want to start over from scratch now 😬

I dont mind a changing culture and all that, im just a little disappointed that the legacy of the beats, the hippies, the punks are ….overwmphasizing pronouns and obsession with gender. Where’s the counter culture that has face to face community and isnt into consumerism?

You're absolutely right, and the reality you describe is truly sad. I'm glad you're trying to change this situation with your daughters. I hope humanity reacts in time.
Sunday hugs!
