I swear that if I could travel with my sewing machine I would not hesitate to do so. Sewing is one of the things I miss the most when I'm not at home, so whenever I have the opportunity to sew something, I do it. With the nomadic lifestyle I lead lately, I don't have big repairs to do, just small occasional alterations to my clothes or backpack, but they serve to get me back to sewing even if it's just for a little while. Throughout this year, I also contributed with my little sewing in the hostels where I lived, investing my time in fixing some sheets, curtains or whatever, with stitches that were a mark of my time in those places 😃.
Juro que si pudiera viajar con mi máquina de coser no dudaría en hacerlo. La costura es una de las cosas que más extraño cuando no estoy en mi casa, por lo que cada vez que tengo la oportunidad de coser algo, lo hago. Con el estilo de vida nómade que llevo últimamente, no tengo grandes reparaciones para hacer, solo pequeños arreglos ocasionales en mi ropa o mochila, pero que me sirven para retomar la costura aunque sea por un rato. A lo largo de todo este año, también contribuí con mis pequeñas costuras en los hosteles en los que viví, invirtiendo mi tiempo en arreglar algunas sábanas, cortinas o lo que sea, con puntadas que quedaran con marca de mi paso por esos lugares 😃.
In all this year, I sewed almost nothing with my machine because I spent very little time at home in Buenos Aires. When I returned in June to spend my birthday with my family, I took the time to complete a project I had had in mind since February. At that time, when I was in Bariloche, I had found a toy baby in the street. I kept it for the 6 months of my trip and it had no clothes, so as soon as I got home I got to work on it. That was the most elaborate project I worked on this year (very little actually) 😶.
En todo este año, no cosí casi nada con mi máquina porque fue muy poco el tiempo que estuve en mi casa en Buenos Aires. Cuando volví en el mes de junio para pasar mi cumpleaños con mi familia, me tomé el tiempo de completar un proyecto que tenía en mente desde febrero. En ese momento, cuando estaba en Bariloche, había encontrado un bebé de juguete en la calle. Lo conservé durante los 6 meses que duró mi viaje y no tenía ropa, así que ni bien llegué a mi casa puse manos a la obra para ella. Ese fue el proyecto más elaborado en el que trabajé este año (muy poco en verdad) 😶.
As for my stay in the different hostels in Argentina, in almost all of them I did some minor repairs just because I don't like to see things untight. But in the first hostel I volunteered in, the one that arguably pushed me to continue travelling and doing the same thing for the rest of the year, I did a pretty big sewing project. The owner of the place had some fabrics and wanted to make sheets and pillowcases, so she gave me the sewing machine and I did all the hemming and finishing. I had a lot of fun doing that work last year 😃.
En cuanto a mi estadía en los distintos hosteles de Argentina, en casi todos hice alguna reparación menor solo por el hecho de que no me gusta ver cosas descosidas. Pero en el primer hostel en el que estuve haciendo un voluntariado, el que podría decirse que me impulsó a continuar viajando y haciendo lo mismo todo el resto del año, hice un proyecto de costura bastante grande. En esa oportunidad, la dueña del lugar tenía unas telas y quería hacer sábanas y fundas de almohada, por lo que me facilitó la máquina de coser y yo le hice todos los dobladillos y terminaciones. Estuve muy entretenida haciendo ese trabajo en año pasado 😃.
In the last hostel I was in, I didn't have as much to do but I had already noticed some little things that were untidy that I wanted to fix. I always travel with my little sewing kit just in case, so in my free time during the hours of my exchange, I took the opportunity to fix a few things. My stay in the province of Catamarca had the particularity that it was in a month with very few or almost no people, so this free time was too much 😂.
En el último hostel en el que estuve, no tenía tanto para hacer pero igualmente ya había notado algunas cositas descosidas que quería arreglar. Yo siempre viajo con mi pequeño costurero por si acaso, así que en mis tiempos libres durante las horas de mi intercambio, aproveché para arreglar algunas cosas. Mi estadía en la provincia de Catamarca tuvo la particularidad de que fue en un mes de muy poca cantidad de gente o casi nadie, por lo que este tiempo libre era demasiado 😂.
On those days of loneliness and perhaps a little boredom, after having my breakfast, I would sit in the sun and sew a little. My volunteer duties included cleaning and setting up rooms, so when I made the beds, I saw that there were a lot of unravelled sheets. I like tidiness, especially in a shared accommodation like this where new people come all the time and you should leave a good impression on them. That's why I took the time and trouble to fix all the worn seams I could find. Nobody asked me to do it, but I swear I couldn't look at those torn sheets 😂.
En esos días de soledad y quizás algo de aburrimiento, después de tener mi desayuno, me sentaba en el sol a coser un poco. Mis tareas de voluntariado incluían la limpieza y el armado de habitaciones, por lo que cuando armaba las camas, veía que había muchas sábanas descosidas. Me gusta la prolijidad, y más aún en un alojamiento compartido como este en el que todo el tiempo vienen nuevas personas y se debería dejar una buena impresión en ellas. Fue por eso que me tomé el tiempo y el trabajo de arreglar todas las costuras desgastadas que encontré. Nadie me pidió hacerlo, pero juro que no podía ver esas sábanas tan rotas 😂.
Sewing is still one of my favourite hobbies and after all this time, I really miss creating a beautiful project from scratch. I guess there will be time to do it later, when I finally get back home or choose somewhere to settle down and can take my machine there. For the moment I like to find these little moments of distraction, where I at least remember what it's like to sew and how relaxing it is to have a moment to just think about it. La costura sigue siendo uno de mis pasatiempos preferidos y después de tanto tiempo, extraño bastante crear un proyecto hermoso desde cero. Supongo que más adelante va a haber tiempo de hacerlo, cuando finalmente vuelva a mi casa o elija algún lugar para instalarme y pueda llevar mi máquina ahí. Por el momento me gusta encontrar estos pequeños momentos de distracción, en lo que al menos recuerdo lo que es coser y en lo relajante que es tener un momento para solo pensar en eso.¿A ustedes les pasa lo mismo 😃?
