Hey there my Hive friends and followers!
I´m really glad to see that this time, it didn´t take me long months to come with another Madeira post. The previous one was published not even a full month ago and today, I´m excited to take you on this spectacular Portuguese island again. It will a be a very short visit though as I didn´t get to accumulate enough photo material for a post that would do at least a bit of justice to how incredibly rich Madeira is when it comes to the floral biodiversity. That´s right, we will take a look at some amazing flowers and plants that you can see on Madeira but again, our time on the island was very limited so I only managed to click a few shots but I think they turned out pretty nice and thus still want to share them with you here on my blog ;)
But let me first provide you with some background. No official internet sources though, just my own memories, experiences and observations. As you might remember from some of my previous posts from this Magical Madeira travel / photography series, the island enjoys a very specific climate and soil, which makes it extremely fertile and thus also extremely rich in all kinds of vegetation. You might also remember from my last post about the Farmers´ Market that local farmers grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables - from the ones that we have here in Central Europe to subtropical and even tropical species that cannot be found anywhere on the European continent.
And the very same can be said about the flowers and plants of Madeira too. The area of the island is just 800 sq km (300 sq mi), which is actually only 1% of the area of my tiny little Czech homeland, and yet, the flora over there is so rich and diverse, that local souvenir shops sell entire books about. I know that very well as I bought one for my mum who is the ultimate flower enthusiast. I mean she really is, her backyard garden looks like a botanical garden that people wouldn´t mind paying entrance fee to :D I digress too much, sorry about that. Back to Madeira. So yeah, the island really has a lot to offer to all botany lovers as it´s home to more than a thousand of amazing plant species. If I make to the island again, I promise I will take many more flower pictures than what you are about to see now ;)
That´s it. A tiny sample, just like I said in the title. So multiply that by at least a hundred and you will get an idea of how rich and beautiful the flora of Madeira actually is :) I should also mention that some of the pictures featured above were taken in a lovely botanical garden called Monte Palace. That´s a place where I actually took dozens of cool shots and I really hope to make this breathtaking place the main topic of my next Madeira post as it totally was one of the highlights of our stay on this extraordinary island. Hopefully soon...
