About a month ago we pulled up all the spuds in the beds, and just left them in a box. They can be very sticky fresh out of the ground if cut in any way, and you need to use some really hot water to get it off. Not fun, I wanted to avoid that... So this year I tried something different. I let them sit in their box for about a month and now I am going to clean them and wash them.
The harvest this year is much smaller than previous years, the spring/summer drought we had this year was pretty bad. We started to see trees around us turn yellow and we had to step in many times to water the plants since they were not getting any rainfall.
So due to this the harvest is small, we usually get a couple massive spuds and then a bunch of normal sized ones. But this time we only got a couple normal sized and then many small spuds.
All and all though I am glad we got a harvest.
Will start cooking with them soon, the taste is amazing of freshly dug up spuds. The sweetness these have is unrivaled compared to store bought spuds. Such store bought fruits and vegetables had a long journey before they reached you, so having locally grown.. my own grown sweet potatoes is the best.
Got another box of starter spuds for next year, I pick the smallest of the spuds and save those to grow next year. I will not wash them, no point.. they are going right back in the ground in the spring of 2025.
