Happy New Year with 12th New Year's Brezel / 新年のプレッツェルであけましておめでとうございます

We started this year with New Year’s bretzel as always. This bretzel was a tradition from my partner’s family, and this year marks the 12th year that we has carried it on. We’ve been baking it every year since the end of 2014, enjoying how its character changes a little each time.

I make the dough on New Year’s Eve, and then we shape it together as a family. This year we made twins: one for us, and one for my partner and our daughter to take to the grandparents’ home. I hope it brings back some warm, familiar feelings when they eat it.

On New Year’s Day, we stayed up until midnight and toasted the new year with the bretzel and a glass of sparkling water mixed with homemade ume liqueur. As always, it turned out soft and fluffy and delicious, which makes me feel like it’s going to be a good year.

今年も新年のプレッツェルとともに一年をスタートしました。このプレッツェルはパートナーの家族の伝統で、我が家も引き継いで12年目になります。2014年の年末から毎年焼いていて、その年々の表情を楽しんでいます。大晦日に生地を作って、成形は家族でして、今年は双子ちゃんです。一つはうち用、もう一つは相方と子供が帰省するので、実家用です。懐かしく食べてもらえるといいな。

元旦は真夜中まで起きていて、相方と新年のプレッツェルと梅酒のスパークリングウォーター割で乾杯しました。例年通り、ふわふわにおいしくできていて、いい一年になりそうです。
