Savoring Chowking's Sweet and Sour Pork Lauriat

in Foodies Bee Hivelast year

Hi, my fellow foodies. It's me, @ikaycutie, back again for a new food blog. I wanted to share with you my recent meal at Chowking. Some of you might have heard of or dined at this global fast food chain. For those who don't know, Chowking is actually a Filipino-Chinese fast-food restaurant. Anyway, let me share my experience with you, shall i?

I have actually been to Chowking many times, and my favorite combo has always been their chowfan, lomi, and halo-halo. I love picking toppings like lumpia and siomai to go with chowfan. I tried to find lumpia on their menu, but I couldn't see it. Unfortunately, I have recently learned they have phased out lumpia. It was so saddening. They phased out other delicious options like tofu and lomi too. Tofu and lomi were absolutely delicious! It is a pity they had to stop offering them ☹️. Regardless, I won't dwell on it too much because, you know, they say "If one door closes, another opens"- but let us put it in a food context. You know what I mean.

For something new, I decided to try a different meal. Their lauriat caught my attention specifically for the sweet and sour pork, so that is what I ordered. Initially, I wanted pineapple juice, but the only available drinks were iced tea and coke, so I chose iced tea. Usually, I order lomi for soup, but then again, it's not available anymore, so I just went for wonton mami, which what I order sometimes depending on my mood. I had to wait for probably 10 minutes or so for my order.

This is what my order looked like- the sweet and sour pork lauriat and the wonton mami. The sweet and sour pork lauriat comes with egg fried rice, sweet and sour pork, pancit, one piece of buchi( rice cake filled with sweet bean paste and coated with sesame seeds), and chicharap (prawn crackers). For the wonton mami, it has soup, noodles, a few veggies, and two wonton dumplings.

Also, I asked for one pair of chopsticks, but they gave me two pairs. Who am I to say no to that? I planned on bringing the extra chopsticks home.😁

I finished the wonton mami first because I wanted to save the sweet and sour pork lauriat for last. The wonton mami had a comforting flavor that took me back to the days when I first enjoyed it, and the dumplings still tasted the same- soft, tender, and savory. When it was time to delve into the sweet and sour pork lauriat, at first, I thought the greens were bitter gourd, but I learned they were actually green bell pepper. I believe it was good to strike a balance between the sweetness and sourness.

The pork was so tasty and rich of flavors, which I really liked. Also, it was tender and had a little crunch. If I had tried this before, I think it would have been added to my to-go orders at Chowking too.

And, after a couple of minutes , this is what my plate looked like. I truly enjoyed everything. The plate was filled with different flavors and textures, bombarding my palate with a mixture of tastes. I loved the sauce of the sweet and sour pork too! I didn't want it to go to waste so what I did is mix the sweet and sour pork sauce with the pancit because it was really good, and I had to honor it (HAHAHA).

These were my last two bites. Thanks to this, sweet and sour pork has just been added to my list of favorite food.

Isn't it obvious that I loved it? My tummy was satisfied from the lauriat. Although I wasn't feeling full, it truly felt like a feast, and I absolutely enjoyed it.

I finished my drink as well after that and chilled for a moment to let everything sink into my tummy. It felt like I was in Chinatown too, but the good thing is the restaurant was not crowded at that time. Looking back at their menu from where I was seated, I couldn't help but plan to try their other sweet and sour lauriat options like the chicken and fish ones.

I was thinking why I hadn't tried it before. Perhaps, due to my comfort zone, I missed many opportunities to explore new flavors and dishes. I know the food options have been there for a while, or since they started, but it is still never too late to try them. I am definitely looking forward to trying them soon.

Thank you for stopping by here. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog. Until next food adventures!
