My Daily Meals These Days
I’ve been taking photos of my daily meals these days, especially after receiving a care package from my mother. There were many Japanese foods inside, and I love using them to make Japanese-style meals with local vegetables and ingredients. I can’t find the exact same ingredients here, but the meals still turn out pretty authentic.
Daikon Salad
This is a daikon radish salad with wafu (Japanese-style) dressing. I found the daikon at a local supermarket. It was small, but I was so happy to find it. It had been a long time.
The salad includes daikon radish, cucumber, bonito flakes, sesame seeds, sesame oil, soy sauce, and dashi sauce. The dashi sauce was part of the care package. I usually make dashi from scratch, so using a ready-made one was very convenient. The dressing was so tasty, especially with the fresh, crunchy daikon.
Raw Soba
These raw soba noodles were also in the care package. They were incredibly delicious. Almost like handmade soba from a chef. The dipping sauce was rich and flavourful, and this time I didn’t have to make it myself! The freshly grated wasabi was wonderful too. I really love the sharp freshness of real wasabi.
My grandmother used to grow wild wasabi in her garden. It was so fresh and truly precious. One night, she saw a thief trying to dig up the plant. She told me she was scared, but she scared the thief away by loudly sliding open the window. The thief ran away without taking anything and never came back. I was relieved that the wasabi was saved. Unfortunately, when the government began a construction project, we had to move and lost the treasured plant.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the fresh wasabi with the fresh soba noodles.
Curry Rice
I also made Japanese curry rice with beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, shimeji mushrooms, and white rice. These days, I mostly buy shimeji mushrooms because the price of other mushrooms has become so high. Shimeji had been affordable, but even the brown shimeji became expensive when I went shopping last Sunday… Everything has become so expensive lately. I enjoyed the curry for a few days, and of course, the last meal turned into curry soba.
Mabo Dofu
Mapo Tofu (Mabo Dofu) was delicious too. I usually make the sauce myself using my own method, but this time my mother sent me a special seasoning pack, so it was very easy. The Sichuan-style mapo tofu was so good. I added shimeji mushrooms again.
I also found organic tofu on sale. It was soft, tender, and delicious. The ginger and garlic paired beautifully with the tofu.
Happy Easter
These smiley guys were at the supermarket for Easter. I didn’t buy them, but they were so cute that I took a photo. I especially like their pink ears and red noses.

ここ最近の日常の食事
ここ数日、特に母からのケアパッケージが届いてからは、日々の食事を写真に撮っていました。その中にはたくさんの日本食が入っていました。地元の野菜などを用いて、日本のご飯を作るのが楽しいです。全く同じ食材は手に入りませんが、ケアパッケージの中に入っていた食品のおかげでかなり本格的な味になりました。
大根サラダ
これは大根の和風サラダです。地元のスーパーで大根を見つけました。小さめでしたが、見つけられてとても嬉しかったです。近くのスーパーで大根を見るのは久しぶりでした。
材料は、大根、きゅうり、かつおぶし、白ごま、ごま油、醤油、そしてだしです。だしはケアパッケージの中に入っていたものを使いました。普段は自分でだしを作る必要がありますが、今回は簡単に使えて便利でした。大根のシャキシャキ食感と和風ドレッシングの味がとても美味しかったです。
生そば
この生そばもケアパッケージの中に入っていました。とても美味しく、職人さんの手打ちそばのような味でした。つゆもとても深い味わいで、今回は自分でつゆを作らなくて済んで助かりました！おまけに生わさびも美味でした。私は生わさびの味が大好きです。
昔、祖母が庭で野生のわさびを育てていました。とても新鮮で宝物のような存在でした。ある日、夜中に泥棒がそのわさびを掘り起こそうとしていたのを祖母が見つけました。祖母は怖がりながらも、窓を開ける音を立てて泥棒を威嚇しました。泥棒は驚いて逃げ、二度と戻ってきませんでした。残念ながら、後に公共工事のため土地を離れることになり、その大切なわさびは失われてしまいました。
ともあれ、この生わさびのおかげで生そばを楽しめました。
カレーライス
牛肉、じゃがいも、にんじん、玉ねぎ、しめじ、それに白ご飯のカレーライスです。近頃はきのこ類がとても高く、最近はしめじばかり買っていました。唯一お手頃な値段だったのがしめじだったのですが、先週の日曜日に買い物に行ったら、茶色のしめじも値上がりしていて…ふう、何もかも高くなりました。
カレーは数日かけて楽しみ、最後はカレーそばにしました。
麻婆豆腐
この麻婆豆腐もとても美味しかったです。普段は自分なりのソースを作りますが、今回は母が素を送ってくれたので、とても簡単でした。四川風麻婆豆腐は格別でした。例のしめじも使っています。
セール中のオーガニック豆腐を見つけたので、それを使いましたが、とても柔らかくておいしかったです。生姜とにんにくともよく合いました。
イースターのスマイルたち
スーパーにイースター用のスマイル顔のスイーツが並んでいました。買いませんでしたが、とても可愛かったので写真に撮りました。特にピンクの耳と赤い鼻が気に入りました。
