Sunday nights feel different for me. There is a softness in the air, a quiet pause before a new week begins. We decided to have dinner at my sister in law’s house, together with my husband’s family, my in-laws. Because I go to market to deliver our small vegetables so I took charge of the food, so I started the day by buying seafoods. I picked shrimp, tahong and the grass in the sea we called gulaman and other ingredients, but the sweetcorn is from our small backyard garden. While buying the, I was already thinking, this is going to be a fun food trip we didn’t plan anything, we just wanted to good food and good company.

When I got back, I prepared everything myself. I washed all the seafoods, chopped onions and garlic, cleaned the oysters and set everything up. It tool time, but I enjoyed it. There’s something satisfying about doing all the preparation on your own, especially when you know you’re cooking for family. Np stress, no rush just me, the ingredients and a simple goal to make dinner good.

I cooked everything at the farm. Keeping it simple but tasty. It already cook and ready to eat we all ready to eat, my daughter is the one who lead prayers then we start sharing food like we always do, the food tasted better because we were eating it together.

Of course, family is not always smooth. We have misunderstandings and moments when we don’t agree on things that’s normal. But when you sit at the same table, share food and talk, those things feel lighter. At the end of the day, family is still family.

This Sunday night reminded me why I enjoy simple dinner like this. Just family around the table and sharing opinions and laughed together, sometimes, that’s all we really need to end the week right.
