Sushi Day
We often cook meals at home instead of buying prepared food. This is not our original habit in Japan. We used to go to restaurants like curry shops, ramen noodle shops, sushi shops, soba noodle shops, and more. We also used to buy fresh deli food from supermarkets after work.
My favorite food places were conveyor belt sushi shops in my hometown. My hometown is famous for fresh fish in Japan. There is super delicious fresh fish everywhere. In conveyor belt sushi shops, some people don't expect high-quality fish for sushi. However, the taste will surprise you in my hometown because there are professional sushi chefs making authentic sushi using super fresh fish.
In my area in Canada, there is fresh fish in the rivers and oceans as well. However, unfortunately, there is less fresh fish in the supermarkets. We don't see raw fish much...unless you catch it yourself.
We have some sushi restaurants here, but they are very expensive. We can't buy from them often. Our favorite sushi restaurant is run by a Korean family. Their sushi is pretty good. They also serve their sushi at the farmer's market.
We ordered and picked up eels, California rolls, and salmon nigiri sushi this time. Additionally, we ordered a kimchi bowl. As I mentioned, they are a Korean family, so their kimchi is super delicious!
I learn Korean words and phrases by myself. My level of Korean is very, very basic, and I still can't write or read Korean well. However, I enjoy learning it. I wanted to speak in Korean with the sushi store owner this time.
Interestingly, he thought I was Korean, so he started speaking in fluent Korean. I wish I could speak with him in Korean more! In Chinese restaurants, they speak to me in Chinese immediately. It's very interesting! I think my face is very similar to that of Korean and Chinese people. I am happy to communicate with beautiful Asian people like this. I wish I could speak Chinese as well. I know only a few Chinese words.
Every time I try to speak some Korean and Chinese, they welcome me and reply gently. I love listening to other cultures' languages very much.

寿司の日
日頃は、できあいのものを買わずに家で料理をすることが多いです。日本ではそうではありませんでした。カレー屋さん、ラーメン屋さん、寿司屋さん、蕎麦屋さんなどに行ってよく外で食べることもありました。それからスーパーのお惣菜を仕事帰りに買うこともありました。
故郷には好んで行く回転寿司屋さんもありました。日本でも魚が新鮮なことで有名です。北海道は至るところで新鮮な魚を食べることができます。回転寿司屋さんでは質の良い寿司は望めないと思う方もいるでしょうが、普通の回転寿司屋さんでも新鮮な魚で本格的な寿司を握るプロの寿司職人がたくさんいますのでとても満足です。
今住んでいる場所では、川や海には新鮮な魚がいますが、残念なことにスーパーで売られている魚の種類はとても少ないです。刺身用の魚はほぼ見かけません。自分で釣るしかないですね。
近所の寿司屋さんはとても高いので、頻繁に食べられません。好きな寿司屋さんは韓国の方が経営されています。美味しい寿司を提供してくれます。ファーマーズマーケットでもお店を出店している方たちです。
今回はうなぎロール、カリフォルニアロールとサーモンの握りを注文して持ち帰りしました。さらに、キムチもつけました。お伝えした通り、韓国人のオーナーなので、彼らの作るキムチは最高に美味しいです。
独学で韓国語の単語とフレーズを少しだけ勉強しています。私の韓国語のレベルは超がつくほど初級のレベルですし、まだまだ読み書きができませんが、楽しく学んでいます。今回、せっかくなので寿司屋のオーナーさんと韓国語で話したいなと思っていました。
面白いことに、そのオーナーさんは私を見るなり流暢な韓国語で話しかけてきました。韓国語でもっと話せたらいいのに！と思いました。また、中華料理店では、速攻で中国語で話しかけられます。私の顔つきは韓国人と中国人の方たちによく似ているのだと思います。素敵なアジアの人たちとこうして交流できるのは嬉しいです。中国語も話せたらいいのに…と思うのですが、ほんの少しの単語しか知りません。
ほんの少ししか知らない私の韓国語や中国語でも、彼らは快く優しく返事をしてくれます。他の文化の言葉を聞くのはとても心地よいです。
