I am a coffee lover, and I always prefer snacks that are filling and satisfying. This afternoon, I was planning to pull out some weeds in our garden because the grass had already grown so tall. However, before I could start, my husband harvested some sweet potatoes from our garden.

We have different varieties of sweet potatoes growing in our backyard purple, orange, and white. Seeing the freshly harvested sweet potatoes immediately caught my attention.

I went outside, gathered them, washed them thoroughly, and placed them in a pot to cook. My daughter was very excited about the whole activity. She loves joining us in simple farm chores and often treats them like fun games. She was especially fascinated by the purple sweet potatoes and kept checking on them while they were cooking.

At the same time, I prepared our kettle over the fire to heat water for coffee. Please excuse our simple setup! We live a simple life here on the farm. Sometimes we use an electric heater, but most of the time I prefer heating water over a wood fire. The water gets hotter, and since we have plenty of firewood around us, it helps save money too.

I also brought out my daughter's small table and placed our freshly cooked sweet potatoes there. It was a simple setup, but it felt perfect for a relaxing afternoon snack.

When the sweet potatoes were finally ready, it was time to eat. It was such a precious moment to see my daughter enjoying something that her father had harvested from our own backyard. She ate a lot and seemed to appreciate every bite.
Of course, I enjoyed the snack too, especially with a warm cup of coffee. There is something special about eating food that comes directly from your own garden. It feels rewarding, healthy, and comforting.

Sometimes, the best snacks are not the ones bought from stores. They are the simple, homemade treats shared with family. Free from our backyard, healthy, and made with love, These are the moments and reason I love a life here in the farm.
