Shop Local
Since the tariff issues began, the atmosphere in local stores has changed significantly. When I moved to Canada, many nice local products were available everywhere. However, imported products were also widely distributed. After the tariff issues started, the stores changed completely.
Now, the red and white Canadian logos are on almost all products. I was amazed by how much potential this country has to produce its own goods. Then, I also thought about the situation in my home country. Japan also has a lot of potential for self-production. Trading is great for exchanging different cultures, but we also need to focus on supporting local businesses.
We Can Bake It!
This bread logo really caught my attention at the farm market. No wheat, no yeast, no dairy, no sugar, no eggs. Wow! A 100% vegan rye bread that looks absolutely delicious.
I really like the design of the label. I didn’t buy the bread this time, but I definitely want to try it next time.
Fresh-looking bread is everywhere in this market. They don’t carry bread every day, but whenever the local bakers deliver, it disappears quickly.
These pastries are so addictive. I haven’t tried them all yet, but I want to sample them little by little. They all look fresh, tasty, and so appealing. I especially love the lemon tarte.
And of course, these guys are called Pepito. I’ve introduced them before. I usually buy two and share them with my husband. They’re very big, so we can’t finish them at once. Sharing is the best way to enjoy them.
We bumped into a couple who were visiting the market from far away. Just before they paid, the man grabbed two Pepitos. He couldn’t resist them.
My husband told them, “You’ll come back soon.” The man laughed and said he lives far away, so it’s tough to return often. The staff explained the baker’s exact location, and the man realized it was actually accessible from where he lives. His wife laughed out loud. They immediately knew they’d be addicted. I bet they’ll be back soon!
Since switching to decaf, I’ve been drinking this French Decaf recently. The flavour is very gentle, and I enjoy it every morning.
The local coffee shop and its products aren't exactly cheap, but the quality is very high. I only drink coffee in the morning, so I don’t mind paying a bit more for good beans.
I also switched to Canadian soy and oat milk. The packages look so pretty. The price isn’t super cheap either, but I feel good about buying Canadian products.
In my home country, I also stopped going to big chains. Buying local has brought many good results to my life. In fact, I now enjoy grocery shopping more. My focus has shifted from finding the cheapest items to choosing high-quality ones.

地元で買い物を
関税の問題が勃発してから、地元のお店の様子が明らかに一変しました。カナダに来た頃から、もともと地元の商品は充実していましたが、輸入品もかなり混在していました。関税問題以降、店の雰囲気がガラッと変わりました。
店内のほとんどの商品には、赤と白のカナダ製のロゴが入ったタグが付いています。それを目にすると、カナダの自国生産の可能性がこんなにも高いことに気がつかされます。と同時に、母国の生産率についても考えます。日本も自国の商品の生産率が高い方だと思います。異国との交流にとって輸出輸入は重要なことだと思いますが、自国の生産率と地元の商業に目を向けることも大切なことだと思います。
ウィーキャンベイクイット！
農場ファームで販売されていたパンのロゴに目が惹かれました。小麦不使用、イースト不使用、乳製品不使用、砂糖不使用、卵不使用。わー！１００％ヴィーガンのライ麦パンだそうです。これはおいしいに決まっていますね。
ラベルのデザインがとてもいい感じです。今回はこのパンは購入しませんでしたが、いつか食べてみたいです。
焼きたてのパンがそこら中に陳列されています。毎日焼きたてパンを販売しているわけではありませんが、定期的にパン屋さんが焼きたてを配達してくれます。あっという間に完売してしまいます。
焼き菓子も中毒的です。すべての種類を試したわけではありませんが、少しずつ試し中です。どれも新鮮で、美味しそうで、魅力的です。個人的にはレモンのタルトが好きです。
そして、これはぺピートという名の美味しい焼き菓子です。以前紹介したことがありますので詳細は省きますが、見つけた時はいつも２つ買うようにしています。主人と半分こにして食べます。とても大きいので一回に１つ食べてしまうのには大きすぎるのです。分けて食べるのがちょうどいいです。
前回、あるカップルに出会いました。遠方からこの辺りに遊びに来ていたようです。お会計の直前に無視できなかったようで、男性がレジ前にあったペピートを２つつかみました。
私の主人がその男性に向かって「またすぐに戻ってくるよ」と言いました。男性は笑いながら、近くに住んでいないので簡単には来れないんだと説明しました。すると、店員さんがパン屋さんの住所を詳しく教えてくれました。その住所はこの農場マーケットよりも男性の家に少しだけ近いことがわかった様子でした。男性の奥さんが大笑いをしていました。おそらく一口食べたらペピート中毒になることでしょう。お二人はまたすぐに戻ってくるはずです！
コーヒーをディカフに変えてから、このフレンチディカフにしています。優しい味わいで毎朝楽しめます。
質が高い地元のコーヒーショップのコーヒー豆を買っています。朝しかコーヒーを飲まないので、少々値段が高めでもなんとかなります。
豆乳とオーツミルクもカナダ産に変えました。パッケージのデザインがかわいらしいです。価格は安くはありませんが、今はカナダ産の商品を購入することに意味があると思っています。
日本でも、もともと大型チェーンの店で買い物をすることがあまりありませんでした。地元の店で買い物をする方が自分にとってはいいと思います。事実、食料品の買い物でも楽しめるような気がしています。安いものを購入することに目を向けるよりも、良い物を買うことに注目したいと思います。
