Today, I revisited the Food Place food court, located at Pavilion Mall. The food court is located beside the Oriental Kopi Restaurant.
This time I ordered Sea Coconut with snow fungus from the Toast Place stall, which cost RM17.00 per bowl. It is a traditional-style Chinese dessert served chilled with shaved ice, perfect for Malaysia’s tropical heat. This refreshing dessert features a mix of Sea Coconut, Snow Fungus (白木耳), Longan, Mini Sago Pearls, and Lemon slices. The sliced lemon added for extra zing and balance to the sweetness. The combination results in a subtly sweet, slightly tangy, and incredibly hydrating treat — light but packed with interesting textures.
Snow Fungus and Sea Coconut are both considered part of traditional Chinese herbal cuisine. Snow fungus is often included in “tong sui” (sweet soups), believed to support lung health, improve skin complexion, and cool internal heat.
Sea Coconut is a processed palm fruit (also known as "sea coconut" or Borassus flabellifer) valued in Chinese remedies for soothing the throat.
The combination of snow fungus and sea coconut is a popular cooling dessert in Chinese households and dessert shops across Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Singapore. It reflects the traditional belief in yin-yang food balance, ideal for countering hot weather or spicy meals.
