A Satisfying Dinner Stop at Yes! Nasi Kukus After My Cycling Adventure

in #foodyesterday

After my cycling adventure around Sembawang last night, I somehow found myself drifting toward the Admiralty area in search of dinner. By then I was already seriously hungry, so I was not looking for anything light. I needed something hearty, satisfying, and worth every bite after all that riding. That was when Yes! Nasi Kukus caught my attention again. This was actually my second time eating here, and the moment I saw their fried chicken, I already knew my decision was made. Sometimes when a craving is strong enough, there is no point pretending to consider other options.

What keeps pulling me back to this stall is how generous they are with their portions while still keeping the price so affordable. In Singapore, that kind of combination always deserves respect. For this meal, I paid only SGD 7.30, which honestly felt like a steal considering how much food I got on the plate. The fried chicken was huge, the rice portion was filling, and there were side dishes that made the whole meal feel even more complete.

There was also a funny little moment when I was ordering. I accidentally gave them an extra 50 cents, and instead of just quietly taking it, the staff noticed and decided to make up for it by adding more pieces of egg to my plate. That was such a simple but memorable gesture. It showed honesty, and at the same time, it made the whole experience feel very warm and genuine. Of course, with the level of hunger I had last night, there was no way I was going to reject extra egg LOL. It actually turned into a very nice bonus.

Now let’s talk about the star of the meal, the fried chicken. It was freshly fried, and you could really tell from the first bite. The exterior had that lovely crispness, while the meat inside tasted fresh and juicy. It did not have that dry or overly processed feel that sometimes happens with frozen chicken. This one tasted like it was handled properly and fried with care. I really respect stalls that focus on freshness because it makes such a big difference. For me, this alone puts Yes! Nasi Kukus very high on my list whenever I am craving this style of rice meal.

The rice itself was steamed, soft, and comforting, but what made it extra enjoyable was the curry drizzled over the top. That sauce gave the rice so much flavor and made every spoonful richer and more satisfying. The meal also came with vegetables on the side, and I liked that they were mixed with a sweet, sour, and slightly spicy flavor profile. It helped balance the heaviness of the fried chicken and curry. I also had sambal on the side for an extra kick, plus the eggs that somehow became a bigger part of the meal than I originally expected.

To go with everything, I ordered an iced tea, and that turned out to be the perfect pairing. It was cold, refreshing, and exactly what I needed to mellow out the spice and richness of the meal. I kept switching between bites of chicken, spoonfuls of curry rice, bits of vegetable, and sips of iced tea. It was one of those meals where you just keep munching without wanting to stop.

Another thing I really liked was the ambiance of the food centre itself. Even though it has that hawker-style setup, there were plenty of air-conditioning units around, so it actually felt closer to a shopping mall food court. That made the whole dinner even more comfortable after a tiring cycling trip. On top of that, there was also a beautiful temple nearby, which added a little sense of adventure and atmosphere to the night. I am really glad I ended up here.

Overall, this dinner at Yes! Nasi Kukus was affordable, filling, and genuinely enjoyable. Good food, honest staff, a comfortable place to sit, and even a nearby temple to make the evening feel more memorable. I will definitely be coming back again, and next time I might try to arrive earlier so I can finally get that fried pomfret set.

Bon appétit!

Thank you!

This is my comfort food too! The chicken is so tender and when mixed with the achar is almost heavenly.

Qué buena pinta tiene ese pollo! Después de rodar por Sembawang, te lo tenías bien merecido.

That chicken looks amazing! After cycling around Sembawang, you definitely earned it.
